Friday night, we ate at Mt Everest restaurant (not to be confused with Everest), hoping to from there, procede to the theater to catch De Lovely (alas, sold out).
Summary: Delicious, but not a great value.
We started with Momo Chicken: 8 tasty dumpings filed with nicely seasoned chicken.
For dinner, we had Chicken Makhani, Shrimp Tikka Masala, Ghost (lamb) Pasanda and Malai Kofta. Of the four, the Malai Kofta was the tastiest: quite complex sauce and great flavor. The Shrimp were good, but somewhat ordinary masala sauce. The other two were pretty much as expected. Along with this, we had a bolw of saffron rice and the Bread Basket, which had a collection of six (I think) kinds of naan and roti for $10.95. Probably could have had fewer starches, but then we would have been hungry. Why? Because the entrees were rather scant: The Malai Kofta had exactly three cheese dumpings. The shrimp were more numerous, but hardly a generous portion. The lamb and chicken dishes were also kind of small. Especially at $14 for the shrimp and $11 for the
lamb, $10 for the chicken and $9 for the cheese, this seemed rather overpriced.
I can recommend their lunch buffet, I've had it once before. At $6.95, not a bad deal for Evanston. But dinner just seemed like too little for too much.

I forgot to mention dessert: My wife had the gulab jumun, which wasn't anything special. I had the pistachio kulfi, which was terrific. You really can't call it ice cream, it's more like ice butter. Y'know how cookie recipes begin with "cream butter and sugar together"? Well, add nuts, and that's pretty much what this is: very dense, extremely rich. Probably the highlight of the evening, perhaps tied with the Malai Kofta's sauce.
