Any ideas for something quick to take home, perhaps of the sandwichal variety, near AMC Skokie (Carpenter & Touhy), AMC Niles (Milwaukee & Golf), or Muvico (River Rd. near Rosemont Theater), open til at least 10, preferably not a chain?

First thing that comes to mind is Pita Inn in Niles.

I could go for a business lunch right about now.

Pita Inn is great, but Naf Naf is exceptional.

What time does Naf Naf close?

Naf Naf is open until 10:00pm M-SA, but closes at 9:00 pm on Sundays. How about Jack's? I am semi familiar with the neighborhood where the Niles theater is located, and unfortunately there are mostly chains in the area.

Eliminating chains and with the expectation that it will be open past 10 limits you to Taco Burrito King just West on Touhy and Jack's just East on Touhy. You can always swing by New York Bagel on Touhy near Cicero and get a bagel sandwich. Near Muvico, next to nothing non-chain at that hour. You can always grab something in Muvico, no stellar food, but decent and "there." My favorite stop in that area is still Culver's. Sure it's a chain but I really like it. Alas, closes early.

Jack's is only open until 3pm now. My thoughts in that area would be New York Bagel & Bialy or Psistaria

Hi- NY Bagel and Bialy is only open until 6:00 pm. If you were going to the theaters in Evanston, I could recommend lots of non chain places that are open until 10:00pm or later, but in Niles most of the restaurants do not stay open past 10:00pm, and the ones that do are chains such as McDonald's or Burger King. Is there anyway you can make it to an earlier show, and get out at 8:30? You would have a lot more place to choose from then, and you could go to Naf Naf.

I used to take somebody out twice a week who lived in Winnetka, and it was frustrating, because there is nothing open in Winnetka past 9:00pm, other than McDonald's. When I took her to the summer band concerts at Northwestern, we would either be forced to eat before the concerts, or go to a restaurant in Evanston afterwards and get a pizza or whatever.

Taza Bakery (about 10 minutes away from AMC Skokie) changed its closing time to 2 AM a while back; I would double check though, just in case it changed again. Of course, there's also the rest of Devon.

Otherwise, your best bet is probably Pita Inn...

edison park may or may not be close enough for you...but I often get the grilled calamari appetizer at Moretti's for takeout/delivery. It's served over nice fresh baby arugula and when I get it for takeout, the warm calamari lets its juices off into the salad underneath and mixes with the dressing. it's delicious.

Bar Louie is in the Skokie Holiday Inn North Shore, kitty corner from the AMC Skokie. Yes it's a chain and yes it's known primarily as a bar, but they have some pretty good food (including sandwiches, salads, etc). You can get anything for takeout (I've gotten takeout several times from the Evanston location). And it's open till 2 a.m. weeknights, 3 a.m. weekends. Click here for more info and to see the menu.

Two places near the AMC Niles are Nancy's Pizza and Mykonos (Greek). I'm not sure how well they do (and I suspect they may not be all that quick for carry-out); I'm just mentioning them because I've seen them while driving by. Nancy's is open till 10; Mykonos doesn't show hours on their website :x but another site says they're open till 11.

According to NafNaf's website, they are open 11 to 9 on weekdays and Sundays, 11 to 10 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Pita Inn in Skokie on Demster is open until 11pm - probably close to the AMC Skokie. Hubs is also open late - but I'm not super impressed with their quality (only been there late after Grecian Kitchen is closed unfortunately for you at 9PM)

We got out of the movie quicker than expected and headed to Pita Inn. Always satisfying. But if there are any more ideas, please post! We're always going to the movies (and all these are also good for quick work lunches).

This is correct and my contact who works there tells me that 11:30 pm is just about the perfect time to show up there for the maximum selection of freshly-baked items.

    Graziano's Brick Oven Pizza‎
    5960 West Touhy Avenue

    Monday through Thursday 11:30 A.M. to 9:30 P.M.
    Friday Saturday 11:30 A.M. to 10:30 P.M.
    Sunday 11:30 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.

I liked this place when it first opened up, and then it had a downhill period. I think they've bottomed out & improved - I've been there a few times in the past few months and been pretty happy with it.* Salads have nice fresh ingredients, the lasagne I had was quite good, I think they do some of the breads in house, in addition to the pizzas**. Not food I'd drive across the city for, but I consider it the most solid Italian place in the area at the moment.

    * I have a favorite treat when I've had a long and/or frustrating day of a gin martini w/blue cheese olives, fried calamari and a green salad. When I moved to Morton Grove, I had a hard time finding a near-by place for this treat; Graziano's has stepped into that role.

** Haven't actually HAD a pizza here yet.

I have had pizza at Graziano's more times than I care to admit. It's the kind of place where we meet my parents once in a while. To me, their sauce skews a bit to the sweet side, but it's more than acceptable in a "this won't offend anyone" sort of way. I agree on the salads being made with nice fresh ingredients, and I believe there's some kind of deal where you can get bottomless salad for a couple of bucks with a pizza. Definitely not a place for purists, but good enough for a once in a while visit.

For a brick oven place, their pizzas are surprisingly thick and doughy. I wish for something a little less fleshy. I do like their salads, though.
