All kidding aside, this place (located in the former space of the umlauted, unlamented Uber Burger) is a very welcome addition to downtown Evanston. No, they don't list the farms that supply their ingredients, but unlike Señor You-Know-Who's new place on campus, they also don't charge you $9 for a sandwich. The tortas are very good, although they'd be even better on a better bolillo. What you really want here is a pambazo. I think they let you choose the filling, but I went traditional with chorizo (not sure if potatoes are available). Really nice stuff. Tinga is a good option for the regular sandwich and I hope to eventually try some of the other fillings, but the lure of the pambazo is strong. Look, it's not Pilsen (or even Rogers Park), but it's not Taco Diablo either. And who would have thought downtown Evanston would have a Mexican restaurant where Mexican people eat? Chipotle is a block away, so this place will have an uphill struggle attracting students; give them your support.
