My Mother in law and I are attending a CSO concert next month, and she would like to have a late supper after the concert (10:00). She is very picky and only likes basic Italian . I would like to get out of the Loop area , these three restaurants that I came up with are open late (12:00). I did a search and really not much came up. Can someone please steer us in the right direction or suggest any other options? Thank You

Don't know much about the other two, but avoid Topo Gigio. It's just not good.

How about the new mia francesca (I think) offshoot on North and Damen - Forno? I went and thought it was alright. Certainly on par, nay, better than Club Lucky and Orso's. I've never been to Topo Gigio, but if you put this together with Saps' impression of that place, you have a whole answer. Forno is going past 10, for sure, although maybe not until midnight during the week.

How late is Bella Notte open? That would be my hands down choice among the three (4) if it were open late enough.

Sticking completely to your original quere. I would have to go with Topo Gigio.

    Go Sox.

Not far from your proposed options is my fav "basic" Italian, Papa Milano at the corner of State and Oak. Great gnocchi, lasagna, pasta e fagiol and fagiol con escarole. Though it's only open until 11:30 weekends... below is a descrip from some restaurant site. There's a menu posted at amazon.com.

    Papa Milano Restaurant
For over 50 years Papa Milano's has been feeding the patrons of Oak Street. This family owned restaurant serves the finest Italian cuisine, from veal parmigiana to pizza. People have been returning for over four generations to experience the warmth of the food and the friendly service.
