carragh pub on randell rd. give me a break,great decor,really over-priced food(7.99 for onion rings),there onions for gods sake! crappy,tough,corned beef sand. and they stuff it full of coleslaw to make it look huge! many better irish pubs in chgo and the near burbs,never again!what kills me is there are about 10-12 other locations listed on the menu,throughout the country,it never suprises me to see how many people there are out there willing to spend good money on mediocre at best food!

Would it be possible to channel the spirit of e.e. cummings to provide a slightly more specific location for this establishment? I'm not familiar with this place's name or through which communities randell rd might traverse.

My google-fu is weak this morning, closest I could come was Curragh Irish Pub in Woodfield Mall, though there seems to be Curragh's in Edgebrook and Skokie. I wonder if chefhoss was at the Woodfield location, certainly no one ever had a mediocre overpriced meal at a suburban mall.

The Curragh Pub at Woodfield has been closed for about 2 years now. I dined there about 3 times and agree it was overpriced. But the food was good. The seafood boxty and veggie boxty were delicious.

The only one I know of now is located in Edison Park. My parents live within walking distance and have dined there a few times. Good Irish food, a bit overpriced, service is inconsistent. However, when they screwed up drink orders, they let my parents keep the drinks free of charge. Free Smithwicks for my dad = a gift from God.

Personally, I look forward to trying the Edison Park location.

I recently ate at the Edison Park location and really enjoyed their apple cider french onion soup. While this isn't an Irish dish, the flavor of the broth was really intense and delicious and worth a try if you are a French onion soup fan.

I think that the original poster may be referring to the Claddagh Irish Pub in Geneva, which is just off Randall Road. Never been there myself.

I think there was a Claddagh om Randall in Algonquin as well but it closed and became a different Irish Pub clone. I've been to the one in Geneva a few times, it's on Randall in the Geneva Commons. Nothing outstanding but generous portions.

The Curragh of Schaumburg has relocated to Skokie. I asked the servers if it was the same "place" and they've told me yes.

Have been here for lunch a few times & enjoyed it.

Mr. X and I had dinner at the Edison Park Curragh Pub last night. He started with the chicken rice soup and I had the Guinness cheese soup. Although there was little rice or chicken in his bowl, his soup was the winner with a bright, well-flavored broth. The Guinness cheese soup hit the spot for me. For dinner, he had the chicken curry and I chose the reuben. He enjoyed the curry -- the bite I was allowed had good flavor. I loved the reuben -- tender corned beef, perfect amount of sauerkraut, dressing and cheese. I ate half last night and the rest for breakfast. My old-fashioned was fine, his manhattan was off (but not so much that he didn't finish it). The second round (Guinness for me, Franziskaner Weisse for him) was on the house. (We are hosting a party there in a week, which is why the manager comped us a round.) Our server was quite good. Certainly not a destination spot but good if you're in the area and are in the mood for Irish.
