As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm currently "stuck" in the Southwest 'burbs(as opposed to Chicago: North). I'm looking for good places to eat with some trepidation. I knew I was spoiled living in the city.

We went to Chesdan's in a storefront near Bell Road and 159th Street. I've eaten here with my parents twice before and have not been disappointed.

I like the pizza. It's a crispy, southside version.

This visit we decided for pasta and sandwich. I had the Stromboli(or, what they refer to as the stromboli). It was Italian beef and mozz on garlic. The beef was stellar: not overcooked, well seasoned, and tender.
It was huge and was eaten in two sittings. It tasted great reheated as well.

My companion had pasta. This pasta had Italian sausage, peas, crushed red pepper, and a creamy tomato sauce base. If I were the chef, I would have cut-down on the sweetness factor in the sauce, it was just a little too sweet for my taste. Not enough, though, to deter a reorder in the future.

For those interested, they offer a family pizza deal, salad bowls(for sharing), and unlimited pop refills.

Anyone have memories of the original?

That's interesting to hear Chesdan's still exists in other locations. I went to the original Brighton Park pizzeria (4465 S Archer) a couple of times and was surprised when it closed. It seemed like one of those places that will be around forever. I didn't love their pizza, too much cheese and canned mushrooms, but I liked the dark, cozy bar. I was always amused by the note on their menu: "Pipe and cigar smoking is not allowed anywhere in the place! (sometimes we will make exceptions)."
