Hi- It was my birthday this week, and I treated myself to a belated birthday dinner at LYFe at Orrington and Davis in downtown Evanston this evening. For people who have not been there, everything in the restaurant is 600 calories or less, and the place is good for people that try to avoid gluten and vegans. You go to the counter and place your order, and then they give you a locator with wifi to place at your table, so the server knows where to deliver your dish. I had a Thai chicken curry with wheatberries, broccoli, carrots and red pepper in it. It was on the spice side, and I enjoyed it, but my meal was $11.99, and when I handed her a $20 she only gave me $4.85 back in change, and so I assume they charged me 15% gratuity. They deliver the food to your table and they clean up after you have left the table, but you are required to get your own utensils and water. BTW- They have three different types of water to choose from, including sparking, pure filtered, and another kind that I was not familiar with. The place was about 80% full at 7:30, but the place is huge. They took over part of the Chase bank building. The majority of the people eating there appeared to be Northwestern students.

I enjoyed the food there, and they had something for everyone there. They even had a grass fed burger on the menu. I thought the food was too expensive though, and I did not like the fact that they tacked on the 15% gratuity without warning people. I also thought the place was too noisy. The room has high ceilings, and so that might have something to do with the noise factor. The place is a really good option though when you have a large group of people, with various restrictions, such as gluten free and vegetarian. I'll probably try it again, but it is not going to be on my regular rotation due to the price. I decided to go here instead of Hoosier Mama's, where I would have had a sandwich and a piece of pie. Has anybody else been here? Thanks, Nancy

We've talked about going there. But now that I know it's a good place to avoid vegans, I might give it a try.

LYFE Kitchen's third location is ready for Streeterville patrons at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Healthy eaters rejoice, as the restaurant offers carnivores, vegetarians and gluten-free eaters plenty of choices.
