I have a friend who is, sadly, enduring a long stay at Northwestern hospital. He is craving carbonara. I want to bring him some and I want it to be good. Any suggestions? I will be coming from the north. Thanks!

Dave's Italian Kitchen has carbonara. I have eaten there for years and like it a lot!

I don't see it on the menu but I would call up Coco Pazzo Cafe and see if they could make it to go for you. It's steps from Northwestern Hospital.

I would second Cocco Pazzo Cafe. My son has been spending a lot of time at Lurie (next to Northwestern) and we have brought him their Spaghetti AOP as a take out order, which he has really enjoyed. If you need to get away from the hospital scene for a bit, Cocco Pazzo provides a wonderfully quiet, peaceful respite. You can also call in take out orders at Gino's East, which is right next door to Lurie. Call ahead and you by-pass the lines of tourists. There is a convenient take out counter inside.

Bw77 - so sorry to hear your son is having to spend a lot of time at Lurie. I am sending you all my best wishes and am hoping for the best.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We ended up having a friend bring carbonara from Vapiano's in the loop. I suspect it was not as good as the versions all of you suggested but my friend got his craving satisfied, so mission accomplished. Thanks!
