My hubby and I went to Spring World a few nights ago. We were oh soo disappointed. I let him do the picking since he grew up with this food and I was just overwhelmed by the menu. So we ended up ordering the steamed fish, the pork elbow or knuckle(forgot!), and tofu. The fish didn't taste fresh at all, the pork was rough in some places, and the tofu was just okay. Am I missing something or is it better during lunch or did I catch an off day? Everything else that night was packed and my poor hubby was starving and I remember reading on the board that this place had rave reviews. I really don't want to give up on the restaurant..

Personally, I've never once had a bad meal at Spring World in many visits. I am particularly fond of thier ma po tofu, tofu casseroles, tea smoked duck, stinky tofu, beef tendon, and countless other dishes. I don't think it's any better or worse at lunch or at dinner.

My gut reaction would be to give it another try, if you're so inclined.

    Best,
    Michael

I, too have always found Spring World to be perfectly good, although I would steer you away from the stinky tofu. It's just too stinky for me (and that's saying a lot). I can't recall ever having a bad meal there, but it's not my first choice, either.

In my experience most of the places in Chinatown have off nights or bad dishes, even the well aplauded like LTH, Lao Szechaun, and Spring World.

At spring world, I have an affinity for the Kung Pao and the Ma Po Tofu myself, but I have had very substandard Ma Po Tofu there in the past.
