I love Salad Lyonnaise and would appreciate recommendations as to which Chicago-area restaurants have the best. I've had some very good ones but do not remember where. Many thanks.

One of my favorites too, and the couple times I've had it recently (as in late this summer) at Bistro Campagne it's been better than ever. I don't know if their new chef has changed it at all since he's come on, but he was leading the kitchen when I had it.

I like the versions at La Sardine and at Mon Ami Gabi, La Sardine is a more traditional version, Mon Ami Gabi's had kale along with frisée, both have soft poached eggs and lardons.

Thanks for this. I'm personally also on the hunt for the (flavor and alphabet index, if not immediate geography-) related warm Salade Liegeoise since Leopold closed.

I would second La Sardine. It's several years since I was there, but I very much enjoyed their Salad Lyonnaise.

I've had an amazing version at River Valley Farmer's Table, but if I remember correctly, it might be something they bust out only for their special prix fixe menus. I've definitely had it a couple years when we've gone there for an early NYE dinner.

Long time lurker, with my virgin post.

I'm a Salad Lyonnaise afficianado, but have largely despaired of finding a true version in the country. Even when a place gets everything else right, they overcook the egg, which in the versions I've had in France is so lightly cooked that it just becomes one with the salad in a sort of eggy goodness. Most places here you wind up with egg chunks. Do any of the above places get it right?

I was just at Chez Simo on Saturday the 10th. We shared all the dishes, so it wasn't the best way to get a real taste of it, but the salade Lyonnaise had a very runny egg (just the way I like it).

Mon Ami Gabi, at both the Oak Brook and Paris/Las Vegas locations, makes a wonderful salad Lyonnaise. Both that and their French onion soup rival or surpass anything I tried in Paris.

I'd also like to put in a good word for the Lyonnaise salad @ Maude's Liquor Bar. Outstanding.

Kiki's Bistro has a lovely, classic Salad Lyonnaise.

It seems fairly straight forward to attempt this at home. Does this recipe reflect what you tried?

Not sure if it qualifies as a straight up Lyonnaise salad, but I've ordered the version at Blackbird pretty much every time I've been there. Worth a try.
