We are considering Cafe Matou (in Bucktown) for dinner on Saturday - parents are visiting. Anyone have any comments or opinions of this restaurant? Thanks!

I ate there a couple of years ago and wasn't that wowed, tried it again last winter and was pleasantly surprised. It is pretty much traditional French country food, nothing cutting edge but perfectly satisfying, a nice neighborhood place that you should enjoy just fine.

Note: I corrected the spelling in the subject line for the sake of the search engine.

We ate there about last november and weren't wowed. It was good, not great and in our opinion not worth going back to given geographically closer and better food of similar genre (Bistro Marbuzet, Le Coq, Hemingways). I do remember enjoying the mussels but can't even recall what else we had.. Basically its decent for a neighborhood place, but I wouldn't make a special trip out there.

What's become of the days when someone who opines on the ho-hum-ness of Cafe Matou gets clawed by a hissing group of Cat-lovers?
