    Hi LTH'ers!
We (me, my husband, and 2 our kids) are travelling through Great Lakes region and one of our longest stays will be in Chicago, will stay for ten days in West Town.
Our kids are fond of pizza, my husband loves meat, of course, and I am a veggie
I've read positive reviews of Lou Malnati's and Coalfire. Would any of these or probably they both match our preferences? Possibly you can advise something else?
Also, advice of a nice not very expensive venue serving good wine (preferably white) and seafood (enjoy salmon) would be greatly appreciated)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Lou Malnati's is always a great choice for our delicious local specialty of deep-dish pizza.

My favorite restaurant in West Town is Mexique, which serves contemporary Mexican cuisine with a subtle French influence. Check out my post and photos of the wonderful dinner I had there last year (click here).

Also in West Town, I had a fantastic dinner a couple of months ago at Ruxbin, but I'm not sure whether it would fit your stated preferences. It's an upscale (but surprisingly moderately-priced) contemporary restaurant featuring a tasting menu with limited choices. You might want to check out their website menu and see how it sounds to you.

Keep in mind that you'll be around for ten days, which will give you a chance to explore a lot of places (and two nights of pizza wouldn't overwhelm your itinerary). You may want to consider the entire city and not limit yourself to places in West Town. If I had to recommend one restaurant (in addition to Mexique) that is moderately priced and a good place for seafood as well as meat, for wine and for families, it would be Anteprima. It's in the Andersonville neighborhood on the north side. It's quite affordable - almost any three courses for $29 Sundays through Thursdays, not that much more than that on weekends. Everything there is excellent, even little things like the bread service (focaccia and the best grissini breadsticks you've ever had in your life).

Please tell us where you are from so we can highlight places that are better here than there.

Looking to eat only in that neighborhood, or move around? If moving around, how do you plan to get around?

Any particular price ranges, or types of restaurants (casual, dives, upscale)

Any particular cuisines you like or want to experience more of?

As for Coalfire and Lou Malnati's, they're really not even comparable. Malnati's specializes in deep dish, whereas Coalfire is more of an artisan thin crust spot, somewhat similar to NY-style without necessarily the fold or grease.

But tell us a little more about what you're looking for, and whether the menus need to appeal to kids.

As others mentioned above, if you can lay out a few more parameters and preferences, it'll be a lot more likely that we can provide you with useful recommendations.

    Thanks!
