Just home from having sushi at Taketei in Edgewater and really enjoyed it. A friend has just moved nearby and was craving sushi so we looked for a nearby spot and were so happy to find this little gem. They have just a few tables in a very pretty setting - so simple and relaxing. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and helpful - and the fish was superb.

My friend has a gorgeous sashimi appetizer plate while I started with the cucumber salad then headed into Ngiri. These had just the right amount of fish, generous without becoming clunky and unbalanced with the rice. When I asked for extra ginger since I could live on pickled ginger, I received a side dish brimming it - yum!My friend had some rolls and miso soup and we both hit the mochi offerings. Each dish was really well plated, each ingredient super fresh.

It's BYOB and a great spot to sit and chat. We went early - 5:30 - and it was empty but filled up around 7:30. I suspect I will be riding the 36 bus up there a lot!

I live pretty close and Taketei has become my go-to for simple no-frills sushi. Rolls aren't overly mayo'd and the rice is nicely seasoned and is served at the right temperature.

It hasn't been open for over a year, but now it's official with the For Rent sign on the window. Taketei will not rise again.
