    I'm trying to leave meat.
Based on everything my Chinese Acupuncturist tells me about
eating vegetables and NOT eating meat- I've been exploring the Plant-based restaurants around Chicago.
One of my favorites- happens to be hidden-in-plain-sight on Fullerton, just east of
Ashland Ave., AND- has an extensive "Lunch Special" menu- that's served pretty much all day- that includes an
    Entree +
    Japonica Rice +
    a Salad/+ Dressing +
    2 tasty Spring Rolls (=)
    all for $8.95!

One of my favorite Specials is a Yellow Curry-
which they'll prepare -"Thai-Spicy" upon request-
and is so rich and full of flavor,
that I'll drive from my Studio/Workshop-
(in E. Garfield Park) to The Depaul Neighborhood for this tasty Lunch-
(well- not that often  ....but... )
There are a variety of "meat" options to choose from-
pictured below are The NOT-"Chicken Nuggets", but they also have "fish" or "beef" or "chicken" as well to choose from- all of which- taste just like their actual namesake.
    Amazing!
    (better living through Food Science!)

One dish I also liked a lot is the P.E.T. Curry which is Pumpkin , Eggplant and Tofu,
colorfully presented in a small cup- alongside the other accoutrements ....
again- full of flavor(s) and hard to "miss"- not eating something that had bones-

PS- Professional Parking Tip- unmetered (FREE- ya don't have to
pay $$ to The Government of Abu Dhabi & Germany's Pension Fund  .)
    Street Parking on Bosworth,
and also on the East side of Ashland Ave, below Fullerton Ave.

We had not tried Vegan Plate due to what seemed to be a weird menu, mostly Thai dishes, with some random vegan American dishes. Yet no mention of Thai in their name. After reading Randall's very positive review we went last Saturday, prior to seeing 'Ms. Blakk for President' at Steppenwolf.

Started with papaya salad, nice level of heat. Ordered three entrees: the pumpkin, eggplant, and tofu (that Randall recommended below, the spicy eggplant, and Drunken Noodles. The pumpkin eggplant and tofu was not in the curry that Randall mentioned, but was basically the same dish at the Spicy Eggplant, minus the pumpkin. It was a good dish, but wish the server would have warned us they were really the same prep, as we would have ordered something else. Would recommend the pumpkin, eggplant, tofu version over the spicy eggplant.

Everything was fresh and bright, with very nice presentations. Loved the 'brown' rice, but it looked like red rice to us (we also make red rice frequently), vs. white rice, which we never make at home. Plus, BYO!

Recommended and looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Al- I'm so glad that you took the time to explore this wonderful little spot.

"Mom"- who is "a One-Man-Band"running the back of The House-
& entrusts the front of the house to her daughters -
who also were born in Thailand,
    ..is- IMHO- a great cook
who really takes her interest in offering her very own-
"plant-based" versions of so many tasty Thai dishes.

Now- there are more than a few Thai fav's- items -..say-
Thai Salads I like (Nam Sod- Nam Khao Tod /Crispy Rice Salad.....)
that are not on her menu.
But- so many other "ideas" permeate the menu- I feel there's a lot to explore here.

and in reference to get Lunch Special- P.E.T. (Pumpkin +Eggplant + Tofu)
tell me if this doesn't look like a great meal?
