There's a Port of Peri Peri near me in Villa Park (it might be in Oakbrook Terrace, technically), and I think they changed the name from Porto Peri Peri - perhaps a trademark issue? I've been once, it was fairly solid, comparable to Nando's.

The one in Skokie made the same change. I think there was another name before Porto.

It looks like you're right. The Chicago Reader has an archived image of the "Fogo's" joint from five years ago referenced here and there up-thread. The logo looks identical to the current Port of Peri Peri logo. So I guess the Skokie location is the Port of Peri-Peri flagship?

The Villa Park location is the flagship and company HQ. Looking at their website https://www.myperiperi.com/, it seems they are starting nationwide expansion. There's another location in Buffalo Grove and it's about my favorite thing right now. Much better than Nando's, IMHO.

Even though it’s a chain I’ve been pleased with the offerings from...

    Nando's Peri-Peri
    1138 Lake St, Oak Park
    (and other locations)

Several sauces available to adjust to your taste.

    I haven’t visited a true Peri-Peri place so I don’t know how it compares.

In addition to the dozen or so Nando's now open in the area, there's also the local chain Port of Peri-Peri (I've sometimes seen it shortened to "Porto's"). Any other developments worth discussing?

After looking like it was ready to open for over a year Halal Peri Peri has opened on Devon. It seems to be in the style of Nando's, Porto's, and others already mentioned in this thread. Baked and then grilled for a few minutes isn't my style. I'm still waiting on a real deal Peri Peri spot to open like those in Porto or Montreal. Rotisserie grilled over charcoal. But if anyone goes to this new one let us know what you thought. I suppose I'll go eventually.
