Tasty lunch special, $6.99, Mashawi Grill. Veg, no meat, added two falafel. Bonus, Albert the quintessential Middle-eastern man of many restaurants out of retirement.

Open one month they seem to be swinging along, there are some daily specials and my solo lunch special hit the spot. Same complex on McCormick as Pho 5 Lua. More to follow.

    Seriously? 8)
I'd drive "all-the-way-to-Kishnveh" just to schmooze wit' Albert.

Salaam, Diwali, & Bab a Salam are just a few of the places I recall Albert working at,
and making so-so-M.E. food a great experience!

FWIW- he not only speaks fluent Arabic, and Spanish and English but, if I remember correctly about 3 other languages too.
Thanks for the heads up Gary!

Albert may very well be the best server/performance artist in Chicagoland. As I walked in he snuck up behind me, tapped my shoulder while covering his face, then the reveal, with big smile. Albert remembered the last time we saw each other at Bab A Salam, who I was with, friends I used to go to Salam with, basically charmed the hell out of me without it seeming obvious, forced or obsequious.

Forget edgy high-end dining servers shattering fuchsia tinged gelatinized spheres wafting hay scented smoke and drizzling osetra espuma, Albert kills the game with old fashioned charm.

Gratis* glass of mint tea, handshake, hug, 50% gratuity on my modest bill and left smiling.
