Third Thirsty Thursday (Jan. 19) -RSVP NOW

WHEREAS, having recently “discovered” this column: Best When Drunk

WHEREAS, having written this post about Uno Di Martino; and

WHEREAS, it is that time of year for resolutions.

NOW, THEREFORE, I do hereby resolve to attempt to get Thirsty Third Thursdays BYO-program off the ground in 2006 (I got too busy in 2005 ).

If you are interested in meeting up at Uno Di Martino’s on the Third Thursday of January (January 19) at 7:00 pm with a bottle of wine, please let me know with a post or pm.

The theme for January will be Chianti. You do not have to bring a bottle of Chianti, but you must bring a fact or poem or knick knack or be prepared to sing a song, related to Chianti to share with the group. You are also encouraged to BYO that week at other places and share those finds with the group and on this forum.

It kinda fits the call for the "you know, we should go out to a BYO restaurant more often" crowd.

We still have room if anyone else wants to tag along...but, please let me know by Thursday morning.

We have a guide to the courses for tomorrow night's dinner (means some substitutions can be made, we just priced this out per person, tax, tip, soft drinks, coffe).

To avoid several questions...I translated some of the names.

The first Third Thirsty Thursday was a rousing success, at least from what I can remember. 15-bottles of wine, amongst 14-people, will tend to do that to a person. Company and conversation was, as at all LTH events, the best thing about the evening, but Uno Di Martino seemed to have stepped up their game since I was there last, both times after they had only been open a short while, and the food was quite good.

I took a number of pictures, which I will post, but for now just wanted to say thanks and that Ellen and I had a very nice evening. Looking forward to the second installment of Third Thirsty Thursday.

Yes, a rousing success about sums it up. Unfortunately, what you don’t remember is that a few people brought more than one bottle per person. Perhaps the reason for a little memory loss for more than just you.

Chef Martin, staff and family were all on their game. Reflecting on my own childhood growing up working in the family business, I got a kick out of seeing Martin’s younger brother and son, Joshua, helping out. I didn’t notice the mussels being off, but I did notice a lot of things being on. I particularly enjoyed the sausage risotto and the salad with blue cheese and walnuts. Although the taste buds were a bit punished by then, the roast chicken and the pork tenderloin were delicious as well. The dessert of a single profiterole along with banana gelee not only hit the spot, but went well with a few dessert wines that I brought along.

Yes, it was fun and again the company and conversation I’ve come to expect at LTH events was evident. In particular, I enjoyed the fact that some folks really went all out with my suggestion of bringing along a fact, poem or song about Chianti…we even had a few limericks.

Thanks to all who attended and contributed to making the FIRST Thirsty Third Thursday a rousing success.
