A comment on the Trader Vic thread about too many TVs leads me to ask: What bars in Chicagos have no TVs? The only one I know of currently is The Long Room. Tell me others and I'm there.

Don't recall ever seeing a TV at Rossi's but it's been a little while since I've been there.
Objects in mirror appear to be losing.

I came in to mention Celtic Crossing but since that has been noted, I'll add another Irish place, The Celtic Knot has no tv in it's bar. There is one in the back room but you cannot hear to from the bar or dining room.

    Celtic Knot
    626 Church St.
    Evanston.

Full disclosure notice; I work there one night a week.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

There is a TV at Rossis. Not a big one, or a loud one, but it's there.

For quite some time, I have measured my enjoyment of Chicago-area bars by the quantity (or lack thereof) of televisions within.
Using this criteria, places like the Hungry Brain, Hideout and the recently defunct Artful Dodger have always been frequent stops for me.
Unfortunately, bars without TV's seem rare in this town.
I keep threatening to buy one of these:

and visit any bar of my choosing - televisions be damned.

    Hmm.

Count me in as another who prefers bars sans television. I've commented before(in another thread) on the deleterious effect of Trader Vic's omnipresent idiot boxes and how TV's ruin what could otherwise be a relaxing ambience cultivated by The Library @ Mahattan's The Regency.

Then there's the flat screen monstrosity plastered across the back wall of The Drake's Coq D'or; at least the excellent cocktails aid in ignoring it.

I'll take my book to the bar and read there, thank you.

...and I'm no TV teetotaler(tho' I could do w/o omnipresent sports coverage)...I just don't grok the need for them in lounges/bars(this excludes, of course, sports bars, pubs, and dives).

Although there is a tv at the Red Lion on Lincoln, I think it's 50-50 that the game will be on as more often than not they are playing a three hour historicaly based movie often having something to do with either WWII or British Colonialism.
