Based on a discussion in another thread, I figured we would try Sunday Bluegrass Brunch at Horseshoe. http://www.horseshoechicago.com/
The basic summary: $12 gets you an impressive spread of all-you-can eat brunch offerings, make your own Bloody Mary bar and live Bluegrass music in a Texas roadhouse-style setting.
I would discourage any vegatarians from visiting. The impressive meat choices (bacon, two kinds of sausage, pulled pork, beef brisket, biscuits with sausage gravy) were mind boggling. In addition, the buffet includes grits, pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, toast and probably a few other things I am missing.
The five-piece Bluegrass band was quite enjoyable and the staff was friendly.
Don't get me wrong - anyone expecting fine cuisine will likely be disappointed. However, if you are attempting to chase away the previous night's festivities, this food is right up there with the best of 'em.
To my surprise, the place was not very busy. It could have been a result of the post-holiday Sunday or simply that it hasn't been open long enough (or been featured on 'Check Please") to accumulate a loyal following.

    Johnny,

I probably go here for brunch twice a month, and it is definitely getting busier. In fact, you will probably have to wait at the bar for a little while if you get there past 11:45 or noon.

Their full buffet consists of pulled pork, beef brisket, hot links, bacon, sausage, bbq chicken, wings, pancakes, french toast, biscuits & sausage gravy, mac & cheese, collard greens, cheese grit cakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, brisket hash, and bbq beans. They recently increased the price of the buffet to $14.

Full disclosure: I am friends with Remey (aka BrokenCherry of the Windy City Rollers) the bartender there and all around cool gal.
When I grow up, I'm going to Bovine University!

Question: is this the kind of place where one could bring a small child? Buffets are great for kids -- no waiting -- and I think she would enjoy the music, but if the atmosphere is more like a bar and not child-friendly, I would appreciate knowing that. Thanks.

I have seen a few children on recent visits. I believe they may even have hi-chairs to accomodate them. I think it is an environment most children would enjoy.
By the way, I was first introduced to Horseshoe via Broken Cherry/Windy City Rollers also. Mrs. Johnny was a member early in the season until the demands of culinary school and her restaurant gig became too much.
