As I jogged by the other morning, I noted the "Thanks for your patronage" sign on the door of Prego (Ashland & George). Too bad. My wife and I ate there the first night they were open and, for a while, were there two or three times a month. The food was usually excellent, the prices were good, and it was BYOB. What more could one ask. Then, the bombshell. The liquor license came through and the wine list, though very good, was also very expensive. There were rarely bottles below $30. In addition, the food steadily went up in price. My surmise is that they priced themselves out of business.
Frank, if you should read this, here's hoping you open a new place! Keep the quaility high and the prices low. Put on a few bottles of Montepulciano or Rhone for $18 to $20. Let us know when it's open. We'll be there.
