    All right, it's Challenge time!

My father-in-law will have an extended layover at O'Hare in a few weeks on a Sunday. He was thinking brunch-ish somewhere nearby. Any suggestions? To complicate matters further, my husband is a vegetarian (but not vegan!). A simple diner, frankly, would be great, but the Reader website hasn't helped me much.

Any guidance you folks can give me would be much appreciated!

    Here are some possibilities:

    Sofitel Chicago O'Hare
    847/678-4488
    www.sofitelchicagoohare.com
    5550 N. River Road
    Rosemont

    Pine Grove Family Restaurant
    847/298-5110
    6580 Mannheim Road
    Rosemont

    Pancakes Eggcetera
    847/384-9944
    9463 W. Higgins Road
    Rosemont

The Sofitel used to do a very nice Sunday brunch. I assume they still do, though I haven't been in a while.

The Pine Grove is a fairly regular Grecian diner; I've not been there for breakfast but the sandwiches, etc., I've had there have been fine.

I can't comment on the breakfast place other than to report on its existence. Rosemont also has an IHOP.

Pancakes Eggcetera was the best place I found for breakfast in the area after spending 3 weeks at the extend-a-stay due to a condo not delivered on time..

They had a 3-3-3 combo with 3 eggs, 3 pieces of your choice of meat and 3 pairs of french toast...for the price that was almost too much to eat.

We've had good luck with a place called Moondance Diner on Higgins, just a little west of Des Plaines River Road. Casual, completely smoke-free, very clean, good and fresh food, terrific portions, and lots of fun and unique omelets / scramblers / what-have-you.

Give them a call first just to make sure they are still the same - it has been a couple of years since we've been there: (847) 292-1840

Not sure about vegetarian, but, as my husband used to work at the Norwood Park Fire Department, we used to eat at the Warsaw (Old Warsaw Buffet & Lounge, ) a study in Liberace kitsch and Polish food. I assume the 4-5 cabbage salad options are vegetarian one way or the other, possibly the pierogies as well. I wouldn't say it was fabulous, but it's very convenient since you don't have to wait for table service.

We enjoyed ourselves, ate at our own pace, and when it was time to hop on the plane, hopped up Harlem to I-90 and then the two exits to O'Hare, about 10 minutes or so if the lights are against you.

Hotel Soffitel does have a great brunch.

Great breakfast at Le Peep in Park Ridge, though not a brunch.

A little further, west of Harlem on Lawrence is Cucina Biagio, incredible Italian brunch.
