Thinking about a good place for an engagement dinner in Chinatown. Decor has to be a bit better than average and of course food has to be pretty good. We were thinking Phoenix but I've never been there for dinner. Has anyone tried anything other than their dim sum? Any suggestions?

You mean a restaurant at which to pop the question? I'm not sure any of the Chinatown restaurants would be ideal...

Basically a nice place for all the parents to meet.

I know I sound like a broken record but I think GNR winner Moon Palace would fit the bill nicely.

Thanks for the suggestion. I know about Moon Palace but I have never tried their food yet. What about Lao Sze Chuan, Little Three Happiness, Triple Crown Seafood? What about any restaurants in the Chinatown Square Mall?

Lao Sze Chuan is wonderful, of course, but can feel rushed and noisy, especially on weekends. LTH has great food, but the linoleum floor and the refigerator in the dining room (repository of the famous hot sauce) are perhaps not conducive to the ambience you seek on this particular occasion.

I've only been to Triple Crown once, and it was many years ago, so I'll let someone else speak to it.

I'd say Phoenix is probably your best bet for a more "fomal" dinning environment. FWIW, based on my experience, their big open floor setup is typical of formal mass Chinese dinning (i.e. Wedding reception, new born showers, etc.)even in China/HK.
