I have finally bought a condo (my first) and will be leaving my beloved Andersonville where I've lived for almost 16 years. My new neighborhood is near Western and Devon (which I've heard called West Rodgers Park, West Ridge, anything else?) I love, love Indian food and so you can imagine that I am beyond joyful about all the dining and shopping options now in walking distance. And I have read the many, many reviews and recommendations of the restaurants on or near Devon on this site. But much as I would eat Indian food almost daily, a gal cannot live on chana masala alone. I realized I don't have any ideas about pizza delivery, Thai or Chinese (dining or delivery), middle Eastern restaurants, etc. that might be near by. The pizza and Thai delivery are of special interest. Does anyone leave near the area and have good recommendations for non-Indian restaurants and delivery? Many thanks.

Candlelight pizza, according to G Wiv and others on this board, is supposed to be really great. They're not too far from you, and I'm not sure if they deliver - but a quick phone call will answer that for you.

You should definitely try Blue Elephant Thai. It's at 1235 W. Devon @ Magnolia. They have cute outdoor seating and all the food is hyper-fresh. They do deliver, as well...but if you make it in there, make sure to BYOB. The tofu satay is great (they cube it for you)! Definitely one of the better Thai joints around---especially in that hood.
Also try Lake Side Cafe, a great veggie place up in Edgewater. Great vegan Polish sausages and soy lattes...plus, it's a perfect coffee shop/cafe to chill at all day with the paper---don't know why it's not more packed~

Some of that will answer the neighborhood question - there is a kind of no-man's land west of Western between Devon and Bryn Mawr or even Lawrence that defies a lot of the standardized neighborhood boundaries.

Not that that is necessarily pertinent - however, where you are in relationship to easily delivered food depends a lot on where you are in relationship to Devon and Western, especially if it's a matter of a couple blocks - as both of these can be boundaries for delivery.

Geez, check out, explore, love La Unica grocery and cafeteria (Cuban). If I lived closed I'd be there once a week easy.

Usually, when I head to Devon/Western, it's for Indian food so I cannot be of great use in identifying good Thai or Pizza places. Two thoughts nonetheless:

    - Your new condo is very near Katsu, a wonderful Japanese restaurant (@2651 W. Peterson) about which you can read at some length in previous threads.

    - In terms of identifying what restaurants deliver to your area, check out www.grubhub.com. It's a pretty cool service, which I have used a couple of times with overall positive experiences.

Don't forget Max's with the red giardinara is pretty good (on Western). A little bit ago, I had a burger at Wolfy's on Peterson and it was surprisingly good. Taboun has very good stuff, but it is pricey, as that is the price to pay for being kosher. I hear that Pekin House has a secret Vietamese menu or something to that effect, I have never tried. The Assyrian shop, Attour, a bit east of Western on Devon has a very short inventory, but the owner Sam is a real charmer, you will find something to buy.

It's got to be a fun area to live!

The official Chicago neighborhood of West Ridge definitely covers Hellodali's new neighborhood. However, this is one of the official neighborhoods like North Center that seems to have been a catchall for pieces that didn't fit together very coherently when the maps were made in the 1920s. West Ridge covers essentially everything in Chicago from Lincoln Square north to Evanston from Ridge west to the North Shore Channel. Lincoln Square's technical northern boundary is Bryn Mawr except for including all of Rosehill Cemetary. Mhays description of some parts technically in Lincoln Square and West Ridge as something of a community no-man's land is on target. Note that the portion of West Ridge south of Devon plus maybe a little north of Devon is sometimes referred to as North Town. West Rogers Park has long been used as a tonier unofficial description of the portion of West Ridge north of Devon.

For once the condo developers along Lincoln north of Foster aren't lying when they call their buildings in Lincoln Square even though most people really don't think of that area as part of Lincoln Square.

Thank you all for the thoughtful suggestions. I love La Unica and it completely slipped my mind that I'd be closer by! If I make any new discoveries, I will of course report back.
