You Choose Where I Eat

Due to a recent windfall from the wife performing her civic (jury) duty at federal court, she is treating me to dinner. We can't decide where to go, so I thought I let one of you all pick.

The only stipulations are these:

1. Not downtown. I live in the Western Burbs, so anything out here would be great. (or reasonably close)
2. No more than $125 total for two including beer. (we are not wine drinkers.)

I can only come up with Ruth's Chris. My wife is indifferent at this time.

I should also add that due to babysitter difficulties, this might not happen for a while. So be patient for an update.

Bistro Banlieue in Lombard or La Piazza in Forest Park.

Bistro Banlieue is a good recommendation (for what it's worth, it's in Lombard near the Yorktown shopping center and not in Naperville). It's a nice, upscale atmosphere with very good food.

If you're thinking of a place like Ruth's Chris, then I also would throw out Hugo's Frog Bar in Naperville. It probably could be done for close to $125 (depending on what you order and how much beer you drink). The menu is available through their website...but the bottom line (if you're unfamiliar with the place) is that they offer Gibson's steaks and quality seafood (fresh fish, crab cakes, etc.) in a relatively upscale, masculine (in decor) setting. It continues to be very popular...definitely make a reservation.

Right, right, you're exactly right about it being in Lombard. It's a silly mistake, too. I'm not sure why I had naperville in my mind, since I've only been to Naperville a half dozen times..

BB is also the place that comes to my mind. They recently started a Tuesday and Wednesday night special. Any combination of starter, full entree and desert is just $28 ($33 for venison or steak). That includes both their regular menu and chef's specials.

Now my wife has brought up Maple Tree Inn in Blue Island. I know that is not in the western burbs, but it works out great becuase it's close to grandma & grandpa's house. There are just so many choices.

Not sure what kind of beer you like, but Maple Tree Inn is a great place for the beer enthusiast or someone who is just up for trying something new. Last time I visited, they had a great selection of hard-to-find beers on tap from Dogfish Head, Three Floyds and other craft breweries as well as a decent selection of draft Belgian beers that you likely will not find at many other restuarants, let alone bars. In making your decision, note that Maple Tree Inn is closed Sun-Tues.

If you are committed to MTI they have great micro beers on tap. Last year MTI ran a special including most of the entreescan app and dessert for a few bucks more than the entree. BBQ shrimp(butter and seasoning) are worth the drive and the cornbread stuffed pork chop has been excellent except for one visit.


If you stay in west sububs, Pacific Blue in Glenn Ellen next to the Glen Arts theatre serverd up some interesting seafood for a good price. Most of the dishes have sauce or interesting twist. On the app list, tuna two ways was mixed. Seared was great; poke way to soy or sesame infused.

Lounge in the back? with live entertainment on weekends.

Just to comment that the food at Maple Tree Inn is also very good. I doubt there is a better overall Cajun/Creole option in the Chicago area. I also endorse the barbecued shrimp.
