I have read most of the tamale forums and tried the Girabdlis/Grimaldis? on the Clark today. A little greasy, but the meat was good. I was looking to see if anyone else has had great tamales recently on the northsude that they would care to share? I heard there is a tamale restaurant at North and Pulaski apparently but have no further confirmation than the heresay.

    Thanks for the info!

Don't know if you've seen this thread but there's some good photos and discussions on north side tamale options (including the Garibaldi's. There's a fair number of other threads discussing tamales that can be found via the search option.
Objects in mirror appear to be losing.

I have done the search, and I could expand on the thread, but my question is a bit more broad than clark street and more narrow than tamales in the city over all. Simply put, I would like to start a new thread to focus more on the area that I am looking for, and I have noticed that it usually generates new ideas better than hijacking an old thread. Nonetheless, thanks for the heads up.

You must try the tamales at La Unica, a small grocery store/cafe on Devon. The restaurant is in the back of the market and they have absolutely delicious Cuban pork tamales nestled in a bed of broth AND Mexican tamales (chicken). I try to have a few of them every week or so and make sure to get a cafe con leche while you're there---you will be wired for days!

    Good call, Misty

I've mentioned it before, but it bears repeating that La unica easily has the largest variety of tamales in town. (Country of origin-wise. Some Mexican tamaleros have a wider variety in terms of fillings, obviously.) Most are available at the cafe, ready to eat, but even more are on hand in the freezer. At any given time you might find Cuban, Mexican, Guatemalan, Honduran, Colombian, Puerto Rican and Chilean takes on the humble snack.

Tamales in La Unica's freezer are available individually, so you can go home and steam up a Pan-American celebration of starch.

We bought some tamales from the refrigerator case at Costco. I failed to note the brand name, but they're in the case with the refrigerated pastas and things; they come in a clear plastic tub. They were cornhusk wrapped and reasonably spicy. Surprisingly good.

Does anybody know about the tamale place near the corner of pulaski and north ave that has something like 30 differnet kinds of tamales?

    Thanks!
