While we were making our pilgrimage to the BBQ mecca (Uncle John's BBQ) to visit Mack we noticed that there was a Salam Restaurant under construction on 79th east of Racine.

They had a huge sign on a pole with a middle eastern symbol and quite a nice interior from what we could see from the street.

I know there is one located on the northside as well as south Harlem.

    Looks interesting...

The Nation of Islam (Louis Farrakhan's group) has a large restaurant of that name at 700 W. 79th, I would assume it is an expansion or new iteration of that one, rather than any relation to the northside ethnically middle eastern place. (If it has a relative, it's probably in Bridgeview on Harlem.)

    That must be it.

I thought the building looked old but others in the car were saying it was new.

    Thanks!

That blurb on Salaam is long out of date, typical of Metromix’s coverage of South Side restaurants (they still list some places out of business over a decade). Salaam closed well over a year ago and I haven’t noticed any remodeling or anything going on. I especially miss the bakery; they made a good bean pie.
