I need a picnic to take to my local park for our National Night Out celebration. I've already considered BBQ Bob's, right around the corner - but we just came back from a camping trip and all things fried and covered in sauce don't appeal the way they usually do (also why I don't want to assemble one myself; I'm pooped!) Ditto for Hecky's (tho that's my first thought, and I'm still considering it)

Year before last, Donatella's still had a kind of sandwich shop, and we had absolutely excellent little pizzas with fresh salad on top. Sigh.

Anyway, anybody have suggestions? I'm looking for something that errs on the side of healthy (contains vegetables, not fried but not suggesting 'health food' by any manner of means)

I should also say that I don't want to drive around a lot, delivery would be a plus, and I live near the corner of Howard and Damen

If I recall, you live near a few decent Jamaican places... perhaps you can work out something with one of them?

You have Foodstuffs in Evanston, and they cater. A lot of their food is very healthy; great salads. Their stuff is expensive over the counter but they may cut a bit of a break for catered food, I just don't know.

How about Gulliver's? They have giant salads and sandwiches and pizza. The food is nothing stellar, but it is adequate. It certainly beats Popeye's (and Leona's). They are nice people and community oriented.

You could order a bunch of Persian appetizers and salads from Cafe Suron. Their delivery area covers Rogers Park and South Evanston. I have ordered delivery from them for parties, and have been very satisfied. I love their food.

Thanks for all the recs, folks! Unfortunately, I got too busy to check back in, so I wound up ordering fried chicken from Hecky's, which was OK.

However, I had no idea I could get Persian delivered to Evanston! I'm definitely going to try that - we keep meaning to go to Cafe Suron, but just don't seem to get there; delivery sounds great!
