After watching the sophomore Hersey Huskies lose to the Wheeling Wildcats, we were feeling a might peckish, and having spotted this place on the way to the stadium, it seemed an appropriate place for a light supper.
Sopes have a good crunch and chew, with a nice-sized pile of meat, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. The pollo had good flavor, the carne asada a bit underflavored (although some good caramelized onions in it), and the pastor very tasty (no cone, though).
Guacamole was excellent with lots of lime and cilantro. Red-orange salsa excellent, green less so, but still good.
Overall, tasty, but nothing here surpasses Monica's at the other end of Prospect Heights. Prices a bit higher too (Tacos 1.50-1.75, sopes 2.50). Monica's has a wider menu too (although this is the first place I've seen anyplace sell menudo by the gallon on the weekends). I may have to stop by on a saturday for barbacoa and tamales.
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?
