My son and I stopped off at an arts and crafts festival in the parking lot of a bank at 87th and King Dr. The chow pavilion included the usual fried dough, N.O.-style junk food, Huron Valley jerk chicken (tried it -- quite good!), smoothies, etc. (BJ's wrangled itself a choice spot near the entertainment, but the selection was limited to turkey legs, hot dogs, cold drinks and peach cobbler.)
The notable entry was a soul vegetarian booth, KeeTurah Health, with five or so tin-foil trays brimming with different offerings. The proprietress, who was friendly and happy to talk about her business, was dishing out many free samples to passers-by (some kind of temphe dish, a dirty rice dish, desserts, etc.) I wound up buying a bowl of chili, which was pretty good (stocky and not too sweet).
She's opening up a carry-out only location at 113th and Michigan (a stone's-throw from Old Fashioned Doughnuts!!) in November, with ambitions to open a larger place when she establishes herself.
