We also got food from Prairie Moon last night. Agreed the online ordering is easy. Placed my order around 5:15 pm for free delivery — it was left on the front porch by 6. No contact. Got a phone message when it was dropped off. Food was hot and reliably good.

Who would have thought that the Ravinia section of Highland Park would have so many take out places. In a 3 block section of Roger Williams you have:

    Pieros Pizza: https://pieropizza.com/
BWB Rocks ( Burgers, Wings and Bowls) : https://www.bwb.rocks/
Ravinia Brewing ( Tacos, Burritos and Quesadillas ) : https://www.raviniabrewing.com/
    Abigails ( upscale continental ) : http://abigails493.com/

There is also Viaggio, but I don't think they are doing take out.

Al Bawadi Niles does great take-out, with only two quibbles:
    1) The online ordering takes you straight to uber eats, no means of placing an order for pickup (and they would only take the credit card on-site). I realize this probably saves them a buck an order ("swiped" versus "number" credit card charges are significantly different for vendors), but I'd have preferred to reduce contact
    2) The didn't include tahini sauce which should have come with the falafil if not other items too.

We over-ordered: The small Mediterranean salad is entree-sized, 6 falafil balls, fried syrian cheese, and a mixed grill (which comes with side-orders of any two dips), plus the included bread and torshi, was waaaay too much to eat, we'll get a couple lunches out of it as we barely touched the mixed grill except for the dips. The best falafil and baba ganouj in the suburbs, definitely (and this coming from a die-hard Pita Inn fan who ate their falafel sandwich nearly every week for years when you could get it with a small hummos and a drink for $4.01)
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?

Is the Pieros in Highland Park owned or related to the Pieros in Wilmette? The one in Wilmette closed months ago when the strip mall it was in was sold and then demolished to make room for a housing complex. If so, I'll make the trip up there because their pizza was delicious!

There use to be a bunch of Piero's. Their web site indicates that all of the ones not in Highland Park were owned by this owners parents. It states that he learned the business in his parents shops and then started his own, which is only in Highland Park.

FWI, ( and at the risk of turning this into a Burt's place type of thread ) this Piero's is not as good as my memory of some of the old Piero's.

Seconded. They were my top choice for thin and in my rotation of deep dish/stuffed. Now I have to drive to Giordano's in downtown Evanston for thin because the independent options (La Rosa, Marco Roma's, & Panino's) just haven't been good enough (Napolita excluded, just not a style for carry-out).

Anyone have recommendations for good Indian food at a place that's open for takeout? We're on the north side of the city and Tava is our usual go-to but they are temporarily closed. We're craving butter chicken (or something similar) and good naan. We don't mind a bit of a drive now that traffic is light.

Have you tried Lefty's Pizza Kitchen in Wilmette? They supposedly have a great thin pizza that is cooked in a pan and finished on the oven deck. I can think of many places I'd get over Gioradano's. I've only had the deep dish at Lefty's (off-shoot of Burt's) which is fantastic. I was excited to hear they were planning on opening a second location by my house in the old Blaze Pizza spot in downtown Highland Park right as the virus hit. They probably would be open by now as the owner (John) said it wouldn't take more than a month to get up and running. Hope that is still going to happen. Anyway, give their thin (and deep dish) a try.

I've had Lefty's many many times, I believe I started the thread on them, but it's been deep dish only. Their thin-crust looks okay, but I haven't heard enough direct praise. They already get all my non-thin business as long as they're open when I'm ordering.

I think Giordano's thin is pretty good, more preferable than their stuffed in relative thin/non-thin categories. There's some fluctuation in quality based on franchise though. Downtown Evanston and Rogers Park are both clearly better than any other locations I've had. Where around Green Bay & Central would you get better thin* from (other than Lefty's, which you haven't had yet)?
*Neapolitan at Napolita excluded as a different category, for dine-in only really.

I can't criticize it because I haven't tried it, but the inclusion of tacos and all sorts of other casual foods colored my view in a negative way. I respect NY-style foldable when done right. Giordano's isn't thin enough to be tavern-style, but it isn't bendable like NY, New Haven. I don't know what it is that's disliked, that creates the definite preference against.

The location is no problem at all since I'm going a couple blocks further west as-is. I suppose I owe it to myself to give them a try at least once.

Although I would choose deep-dish over thin crust 10 chances out of 10, I've had the thin crust at Lou Malnati's in Evanston, and I must say, it's pretty darn good, for thin crust.

The Mount Prospect Malnati's carry-out location (Elmhurst and Camp MacDonald) has on occasion put a tiny-cut thin crust pie out for those waiting for pickup (a horrifying idea in this new age of eliminating physical contact). It's very tasty, and rather unique: it's got that cornmeal aspect of their deep dish, a very different and flavorful crust, with their same sauce and sausage. So same flavors as the deep dish but different proportions. Still, like you, I don't see any occasion that I'd order it over the deep dish, unless I'm ordering for a crowd (which isn't going to happen for at least the next month) and some have expressed the silly opinion that deep dish is too heavy.

We live about 4 blocks from Lefty's and have had their pizza a couple of times. We think it has too much dough. We have become friends with Jerry at Burt's Place and think that Burt's is a superior pizza - not just because we are friends with Jerry, but that the crust has more flavor and the topping assortment is better.
I still need to find a place to get my stuffed pizza fix! I have made my own, but Piero's had the best crust and their spinach stuffed was so good.

I just checked out the Tribune list and the Dining at Distance app. They are both missing basically all the restaurants owned by immigrants and/or people of color in my neighborhood. These are exactly the kind of places that LTH celebrates. Can we pull together to submit updates to Dining at a Distance? The Trib list says it pulls from here.

Please don't let the inclusion of Tacos, Gyros, Burgers, Sandwiches etc. put you off. I work close-by and it is in my lunch rotation specifically because they do a commendable version of NY Style Pizza. Plus their version of Veggie Taco is one of the best Veggie Tacos I have had. And they were one of the first places in Evanston to offer the Impossible Burger and the only place I have had it done better is Umami Burger.

There is another Gigio's in Uptown where the signage etc. is a replica. Could have been related at one time. BTAIM, among the NY style pizza's in the area(I have tried Jimmy's, Dante); Gigio's in Evanston stacks up well.
