About 4 years ago I was introduced to the Italian beef and gardineria pizza when I was working downtown and the company ordered it from Rosati's.

I enjoyed it very much! Eager to have My Bride try it we ordered one from the Rosati's in River Grove at Grand and Thatcher and she immediately fell in love and it shot to the top of her favorite pizza list and she will not order anything else.

After a visit a couple weekends ago to Wells Brothers I needed to make a trip to the S. Pulaski Vito and Nicks to have one of their fine pizzas while the brilliant pizza @ Wells Borthers was fresh in my memory. THe Wells Brothers pizza was that good.

The S. Pulaski V & N's has been very good since my initial bad visit. Pizzas have been on the mark each time. Just for reference I have had my best V & N's pizza @ their Lemont bowling alley location(the bowling alley would be a great place to have an LTH event imho).

V & N's was solid Saturday night, crowded, but seats at the bar. Large sausage and garlic, well done. Crispy crust, perfect balance, great pizza( i do think Wells Brothers might be better).

HI,

I have never been to Quonset Pizza. What I have heard, it may be fine as-is though not comparable to V-N. If you were really going to do the trip up here, I would go to Wells Brothers that does compare very favorably to V-N followed by Quonset Hut on the way home.

If you don't love Quonset Pizza, at least you have leftovers for the next day.

My friend and I tried the Quonset a couple of years ago and we agreed that it was not worth going back to. We got a couple of pizzas to at least try a couple different variations and neither was anything special. I know a lot of people up there love it, but that's probably because there isn't much in the competition around there. But to each his own, maybe you'll like it.

I bought a frozen Vito & Nicks pizza at Tony's Finer Foods (Melrose Park location) a few months ago. Even by frozen pizza standards it was awful. I'm not sure what affiliation it had with the real Vito & Nicks, but it sure didn't resemble any of the pictures in this thread. It barely resembled pizza.

There are to factions to the family. The one that makes "frozen" make a terrible product in their restaurants.
The original family and wlfe own & operate the 83rd & Pulaski & Lemont locations. THEY DO NOT MAKE A FROZEN PIE.

Outside of those you are on your own.

Agreed! Not very good.

The Vito and Nicks II frozen pizza is carried at Sunset Foods. It looked great, but it was one of the worst frozen pizzas I have ever eaten. Simply awful. (Similar letdown to Pizzeria Uno chain pizza and frozen pizza when compared to the original location.)

The posts on the frozen pizza are very informative and useful. Thank you. While I know V&N II and V&N are separate entities, the pizza looked like it had some promise. I've always put off buying it because it's so much more expensive than a normal frozen pizza--something like $10-$11 a pie, if I'm remembering correctly, while my tried-and-true go-to Home Run Inn frozen pizza is around $6. Now I know not to waste my money on what is bound to be a failed experiment.

Just to be clear. The V&N II frozen pizza I was talking about upthread is not a pre-packaged frozen grocery store pizza. What I was talking about was an actual made in the restaurant pizza that they used to have in a small freezer in the front of the bar. You had your choice of cheese or sausage. They were simply covered in plastic and were not in a fancy box. It sounds like what they are selling nowadays is a completely different product. The only place I ever saw them sold was at the 95th and Roberts Road V&N II location.

V&N pizza, only if fresh from the 2 locations. 83rd & Pulaski,still the BEST in my opinion.

Home Run Inn frozen is very very good. Their Signature, on the box, Plum Tomato can't be beat. Doctor it up with some sausage, onion, or what ever and you are in for some "good eats". Sunset has some of the best Italian Sausage around. Made by some "guys" in Highwood, it blows Bari away. Last few times I tried Bari, it was left out to long, you could taste iy. Sausage goes bad quickley, if left out to long. Mentioned it to 'em & got a 'line of B.S. It's easier to go elsewhere.

Are you referring to the par-baked ones you can carry out from the 95th location, or some impostor product? I've never indulged in the former, but we've debated shipping them to friends abroad--that is, almost anywhere outside of Chicago.

I'm talking about the ones in the frozen food section at your local grocer. I've never had the take and bake ones from the actual restaurant.

The frozen Palermo's that are found in many Jewel stores are from a chain in Milwaukee (no relation to the Oak Lawn Palermo's) and they are just vile. I'd rather eat a Jacks or Totino's frozen pizza. The Oak Lawn Palermo's does have frozen pizza's and they are very good, IMHO.

The Palermo's Primo Thin "Special Edition Pepperoni" is my favorite mass-market frozen pizza by a mile. Home Run Inn comes in second, I'd say. I don't get the negative reactions either, but I've never had the normal crust from Palermo's.

Palermo's protip: some Costcos in the area sell 3 packs of the Special Edition Pepperoni for $10.
