walked by last night and it looks just about finished, there was a decent number of people sitting around a table inside and the kitchen in the front looks ready to go, also they had the big jar filled with pork skins on the counter, that must be a good sign

i have to say it looks very nice inside

I spoke to Kelly a few days ago, they are set to go just waiting for the proper permits. Michael, Kelly's brother, was very recently married and they are having a party to celebrate at Sun Wah this weekend. I hinted, hemmed and hawed, but no invite. :)

Looking forward to the new Sun Wah.

    Enjoy,

I saw people in formal wear going in there tonight, from down the street, and considered walking over to see if they were open. Guess not.

hello!! my bad, i mean quack quack!! so, now that i'm quacking again, i wanted you all to know, WE'RE OPEN FOR BUSINESS!!! well, starting tomorrow. little late for us to be cooking up a storm on a skeleton crew tonight...hehehe!!! so, hope you all had fun while we were slaving away in here. and yes, we were all dressed up in here the other night because as gwiv said, my brother recently got married and the party was at the restaurant. finally had the license in hand this morning and we've been trying to get everything ready for tomorrow, hence the delay in getting this message out. we are SOFT OPENING. not grand opening. so please bear with us while we work out the kinks. i think having food for you guys is much more important than being perfect or working with malfunctioning equipment.... :D see you all soon!

    Hi,

While on official LTHforum business, I stopped in tonight at Sun Wah BBQ. Kelly, Laura, Daddy Cheng and all, looked tired and relieved to finally open to the public tomorrow.

As I was preparing to leave, they were serving a staff meal. I asked, "Have you had your first customer yet?" "No, that will be tomorrow." "Why not right now? Why not me?" "I don't have anything to offer." "No problem, a glass of pop will do." "What about chicken skins?" "Perfect!" "I don't have change!" "Keep the change, I want you to have my five dollar bill."

While there is so much new stuff, a carryover from the old restaurant is the cash register:

I wish prosperity and success to Sun Wah BBQ and the Cheng family.

They're open!!!! Stopped by for lunch today about 1:30. Must say the place is impressive, seats about 220. Ordered a few of our favorite dishes and can say except for the room, it was as good as the old place. Prices seem the same as before the move. Kelly welcomed people and seemed in good spirits although I'm sure a million things were on her mind. I'm sure they will have a long and successful run. My only complaint, and this is just me, is the chairs have a flat wood seat and are not for spending long periods of time sitting.

I had lunch there today as well, and that was my exact comment to my dining companion (actually, the exact comment was "lack of butt cheek cuppage"). BTW, there is going to be a Blowout Welcome Back Dinner at Sun Wah next Saturday, 11/7/09. It's open to all. Sign up on the event thread.

I was mentally scoffing at the idea there might be parking, as the new place is just around the corner -- but I then realized that Aon has a lot right there, I think adjacent to the new spot. Unlikely, but it would be nice if Sun Wah could have access to that lot, at least at night.

When I drove by last night, I noticed that there are spaces on the Broadway in front of and to the North of the Aon Parking Structure (probably room for six cars).

Kelly mentioned that the small lot just to the south of the new restaurant is available for parking at night, but the big parking structure to the north is not.

It was surreal, almost, to be in such a large and spiffy space, yet eat the same food and see the same friendly faces. Tonight, during dinner, the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. I can't blame them for seeming mildly flummoxed, as the space looks three times the size and the kitchen appears to have two sections - one in front and one in back. I imagine it will take some time before all the space is used optimally. Nonetheless, as always, we left happy.

Sun Wah lunch, spacious, spiffy, multiple 18-person tables, along with 2 and 4 tops, Kelly, Laura, Michael looking happy and more than a little tired.

On a plate, in a bowl, Sun Wah, as always, on a roll.

    Enjoy,

I stand corrected. There's room for four cars (mine was one of them this afternoon for an excellent lunch!) on the East side of Broadway and about ten across the street in front of Aon's offices on the West side of Broadway. It's not always easy to find parking in "Argyle" but is often well worth the effort.

Going to the new Sun Wah is like seeing a sweet, deserving friend get a fashion makeover. She doesn't change where it counts, but looks better and feels better about herself. Sorry, I've just finished my leftovers and I'm in an introspective, philosophical mood.

Thanks! I look forward to my visit. I ask because I've read in reviews that you have to order duck ahead of time. Is that for something different?

At one time, you had to order ahead, but they serve so much Peking duck these days that thay always have them in stock. Just to be on the safe side, you can always call ahead and ask that they hold one for you.

Fifille and I couldn't wait an entire week so off to Sun Wah we went last night. The place is spacious- no more bumping chairs with your neighbors. Started with hot sour soup, had an order of garlic fried ribs, and ended with the peking duck for two. The flavor of the soup was ever so slightly different from past visits, I am chalking it up to not having made it for a month. Still absolutely delicious. Ribs were spot on, one of my two favorite pork dishes in Chicago. The peking duck was also terrific.

We have tons of leftovers and I'm looking forward to a very nice lunch of soup and duck fried rice. One thing to note, there are several additions to the wait and bus staff. Our waiter was really friendly and engaging but was not 100% familiar with the menu (or LTH'ers appetites;)) I small thing but something to be aware of. I was impressed with the peking duck trainee; it was only his 8th time doing it and there was not a single lost appendage (of his, not the duck) despite some close calls! The duck soup while good can't really stand up to the hot sour soup at the same meal so almost all of it is in the fridge right now.

I'm very happy to have my favorite Chinese restaurant back in business and wish them all the success they can handle.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

Sounds like I'm going to have to try the ribs as well!

I hate to be a broken record, but can someone tell me the hours so I don't end up going when it's closed? I've done that several times in recent weeks and I'd like to be sure this time.
