The Brown Sugga is truly excellent, but be aware, it's 9.9% alcohol. I had a couple at another venue not too long ago and Hoo Boy!

I had 5-6 Brown Suggas last night at Kuma's and I am really feeling it this morning. Holy Cow

LOL, it certainly is an ass kicker. It really doesn't taste like a beer with such a high ABV, so I was kind of shocked at how strong it was when I brought a 6 pack home last night and saw that. I think even more shocked was my wife who got home from work last night and had one to unwind; wondering why she was so drunk when she finished it ;)

We were there last night too. Wait times seem a bit less than a few weeks ago.

I was there Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm and the wait was an hour and fifteen. We found some seats at the bar and ordered there, so we didn't have to wait, but this is by far the longest wait time I have ever encountered there. The waitress said the check please effect is still going strong.

Mr. X and I went on Saturday around 4:30. I had hoped our timing was between the lunch and dinner rushes. Our wait for a table was about 15-20 minutes. We were starved, so we ordered fried calamari to go with our Allagash (him) and the draft hoppy red ale with a name I can't remember for me. I thought the calamari was very good. We were a bit surprised by the lemon slices that were fried up along with everything else, so they ended up in a pile on the side of the plate. But the calamari was tender and we enjoyed the flavor of the fried rosemary and the cherry peppers. Plus, it took the edge off the hunger. On the burger front, I had the Neurosis while he had the Yob. It's high praise when Mr. X proclaims a burger (the Yob) one of the best he's had this year. I would put the Neurosis in that elite category as well. We were not enamored with the fries, but loved the house-made chips. We'll visit Kuma's again, although next time we may not drive from the northern suburbs with growling stomachs to do so!

Look at JGlynn trying to locate the 9.9% ABV beer. LOL!!! I'm actually hoping Binny's stocks it so I can have a six pack handy on Christmas.

Binny's on Grand has the Brown Shugga' -- $9.99/six (that price seems appropriate in light of the ABV).

Thanks for the info, Matt. I'm hoping the Binny's in Des Plaines has it. $10 for a six pack is a pretty good deal with that ABV.

We were there Sunday night at prime dinner time (7-ish) and with a pretty big party, at least for their capacity. We only waited a half hour or 40 minutes, which seemed completely reasonable to me under the circumstances.

On a side note, I seem to recall a discussion on the board a little while back about whether it's an appropriate place to bring young kids. There was another party there with two really young kids at dinner time on Sunday. The kids didn't seem disturbed by the crowd or the music, and I couldn't see much reason (wall art aside) why parents wouldn't be comfortable bringing kids there for dinner. On the other hand, most of the other people in my party were somewhat scandalized on a sort of general "It's wrong to have kids in a bar, and this is really a bar that serves good food, not a restaurant" kind of ground.

My concern would be that the kids are too young to appreciate the erotic art display on the east wall... ;)

I ate there again last night. At 7:30 PM, there was a 30-minute wait for a table, but our party of 3 was able to slide up to the bar in 15 or so. The Goblin Cock was again delicious, and I got the tip on (as reported in a recent Sun-Times article) a forthcoming creation that sounds delicious: a Kuma-fied pizza burger. I'll be back to try it.

Is he really going to do that? I was just asking him to kinda free-associate with one of the bands he likes...but if it happens, it sounds good to me. With pancetta would be nice, though. I love a good pizza burger.

I went on Wednsday night and it was pretty packed. We were told a 20-30 minute wait for a 5 top. We ended up standing in the doorway for an hour and 15 minutes. I'm not complaining, I love the place, but that was a little rough. There was a table of some older folks in the back (probably in their 60's-not trying to offend anyone) that seemed to be just drinking water at a snails pace. They were there before us and after us (about 2 hours total) and seemed oblivious to the fact that they were a major factor in having a roomful of angry glares in their direction.

Certainly there is not a standard for how long you are aloud to linger at a table, but to be completely blind to the fact that other tables are turning over seemed a little rude. Especially since I hadn't seen a drink delivered or poured at their table (besides water) for about a 30 minute stretch. I just hope their server was well compensated for their dumbassery.
If it's 3rd and long, try a draw play.

Waited about 45 min for a table of five last Saturday around 830PM. Was quoted 1.5 hrs though intially. Friendly services despite the busy sat crowd.

My visit this week netted me a Fantastic Special: a Teriyaki Burger, which had an exquisite sauce and chopped Japanese eggplant expertly prepared (which I ended up eating as a side salad, since it had a hard time staying on the burger). Here's a vote to make it a permanent menu item, but I lack a good Japanese metal band to nominate for the name.
    We crack us up.

I believe you may be speaking of the aforementioned Fu Manchu burger - December's special.

So, I found the Brown Sugga beer at Binny's. It was fantastic!! The perfect sipping beer after a hearty prime rib dinner for Christmas.

The wife and I have decided to leave the suburbs and take the plunge into the burger lover's heaven known as Kuma's Corner. We're bringing our 6 and 3 year old sons as well. Do they have a kids menu or are we gonna have to make them split a mac and cheese?

Lastly, as a newbie to Kuma's, should I try the YOB, the Fu Manchu, the Melvins or the Kaijo?? There are so many choices and due to many factors, this will likely be a 2 times a year destination. Should anyone be there tonight, look for me in my Celtic Frost T-shirt. My 3 year old will be sporting his "I listen to SLAYER with my daddy" T-shirt. Yes, at least 2 of us will be appropriately attired. :)

I have been informed that the pizza burger is currently on the menu. Didn't get a name though. (edit: Blood for Blood?)

I may just have to venture up to Belmont & try it. Perhaps tonight.

In short, we never made it to Kuma's. Traffic on the Kennedy was absolutely horrible. Once we got past the bottleneck known as the Cumberland toll booth, we decided to cut our losses and head to Moretti's in Edison Park. We couldn't bear the thought of driving another 45 minutes only to wait for a table with an antsy 3 year old and a 6 year old whose patience would surely run thin.
