If I want to stop in for a light weeknight dinner, can I do it at the bar?

The one time I ate at onesixty blue, there were a couple people having dinner at the bar. One of them was Michael Jordan, so I ended up very bitter that we did not do the same.

Surprisingly, after searching through several pages of "160 Blue" references, I could not find a thread dedicated to the restaurant. If there is a thread, this could certainly be linked to the original one even though my recent meal was simply a small portion of the restaurant's offerings.

On Friday nights in February, 160 Blue is offering a fondue night in the bar. Being a sucker for cheese and lots of it, we decided to pop by last week on a perfectly appropriate cold evening. I had the traditional raclette served with prosciutto-wrapped fingerling potatoes and (I seem to recall) ciabatta bread cubes. TPA had the fontina version served with the truffle frites. While service could have been better, I can take no fault with perfectly cooked potatoes and good cheese.

Still a little hungry, but not inclined to order more cheese, particulary given that we had a big eating weekend of cassoulet and birthday cakes (more later), we decided to split an entree off the dining room menu. We had the Hawaiian Butterfish, a fish that I had never eaten, but had recently read about in Paul Johnson's fantastic book Fish Forever, which described Butterfish as a plentiful and underutilized fish, high in omega-3 fatty acids. Not only is it good for you and better than ordinary for the environment, but it's damn good.

A really lovely evening all around.

I've been to one sixtyblue several times over the years. It continues to amaze me with both excellence and consistency; it's one of the few places where every bite of every dish is simply wonderful. It is my favorite casual fine dining restaurant in the city. I ate there again last year and it was one of the very best meals I ate all year (as noted in this topic).
