Snappy's is, if anything, better than ever. I recently had some fried shrimp, cocktail shrimp, and fried fish (haddock, I think the guy said). All really good and a good value. For me, Snappy's is a less ambitious Big & Little's with equally good produce and, dare I say, better frying skills. I like both and B&L has a great, great burger while Snappy's has none. (Though those who eat chicken breast sandwiches (not me) swear by Snappy's.) I only make the comparison to accentuate Snappy's high quality since many know and love B&L, and rightly so.

Had my first Snappy's experience today. 1/2 lb shrimp & order of hush puppies. I had a mixed reaction to this lunch: foods were fried expertly, but each item had something about it that I found 'off'. The hush puppies were golden brown on the outside, had a 'clean oil' taste, but were gummy in the middle. I found this sufficiently off-putting I ate only one & put the rest on the break room table at work [they've disappeared, so somebody liked them]. The shrimp had great texture and were fried just right, but there's either the breading has too much flavoring [garlic & onion powder] in it or the shrimp had no taste.

End impression was a resounding meh.

It's a sin to fry Snappy's massive, wild Gulf shrimp then complain of lacking shrimpiness. The shrimp cocktail might be the way to go. I just had one yesterday. I swear, I've spent $25 for lesser shrimp cocktails than the $6 steal at Snappy's. Pristine.

I'll take you up on that some day. How do you feel about the flavorings in the breading?
