Just got off the phone with Burt moments ago and he sounds fine. His operation was a complete success, he is back home and in recovery mode. Needless to say he is eager to get back to the store, but is following doctor's orders to take his time and fully heal up.

I passed along everyone's good wishes which he appreciated very much. He laughed and said, "Everyone I got hooked on our pizza; now they're waiting for their "pusher" to get back out on his street corner." Well, at least his dark sense of humor has remained intact.

Still too early to say when we'll reopen, but if it was up to Burt it would have been this past weekend, I'm sure.

I was out of town for a bit, and otherwise indisposed, and hadn't been to Burt's for a good 3 or 4 months so decided to swing up there last night. They were closed still, so we ate around the corner at Pequod's (still good, but . . . sigh. . .). Anyway, not that it is out of the window for them being closed that was on here, but was wondering if there were any updates?

For those of you who don't follow the Events Calendar on a regular basis (myself included), please take special note of the LTH event at Burt's on April 1st.

Thanks Buddy, didn't want to clog up that thread. Good to see Burt getting the band back together. Won't be able to make it that night. Besides, it looks like he'll have his hands full already. Wish him good luck for me.

There's another service outage at Burt's place currently. Had plans to meet up with my cousins over there Wednesday. Was not able to get thru on the phone and, since I live close, I decided to drive over to see what was up.

When I get there, the place is closed. No one is inside. There’s a sign in the window that states they’re closed because of emergency equipment failure and will reopen Wednesday, July 22. I’m reading this on Sunday, July 26.

So, I'm suggesting to my cousins we meet up at Freddy's Pizza this week. Anybody know anything about when I can meet them at Burts?

Not sure on Burt's, maybe Buddy Roadhouse will chime in, but if you wanted Burt's style of pizza and they are closed, why not go to Pequod's?

My cousin initiated the trip; I think she wants to have the whole "Burt's Place" experience, not just have some pizza.

I've been trying to get them to Freddy's for years because I consider it the best Italian food I've had since our grandmother died.

I'm afraid I have nothing to add to the conversation at this point except to say, as far as I know, Burt fully plans to reopen as soon as possible. That July 22nd date mentioned on the sign was indeed the target, unfortunately it seems there are further complications which need to be addressed.

All I can tell you is, the issue is not related to any health department concerns. I say that only because, frequently, when people see a notice of that nature, that is the first assumption made.

More info when it becomes available.

I too have friend's coming to town and getting together with me, specifically for Burt's...

And yes, I too, saw the paper sign in the window..... =(

Have not broke the bad news to my friend's yet, in hopes of a miracle...

Hopefully, Buddy posts good news in the forum today?

In any case, can anyone suggest another "grass roots" establishment in the Morton Grove/North Suburbs area with a unique twist on their specialty such as Burt's please?

Just called Burt's and phone message changed....

States that Burt's Place is closed at present...

Sounds like someone in family is dealing with a health issue...

The Upside is that the message states that they hope to reopen soon! =)

    That is correct.

Just to reiterate the new phone message, we are all deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused to folks who may have made reservations far in advance. Believe me, everyone involved would rather be taking care of you than dealing with the current situation.

Nothing more to add at this point. I'll post more news when it becomes available and relevant.

I called today to see if maybe he had reopened. The VM saying they are closed has been replaced with a generic one say no one is available to take your call, goodbye.

So today I heard a rumor that Burt's decided to retire and won't be reopening the restaurant. Can anyone confirm this? BuddyRoadhouse? If it's true, I wish Burt all the best and just want to say thanks for all the great pizza and all the great years...
