Didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I'd pirate this one.

My boyfriends parents are in town and we were thinking of taking them to Devon ave, except his mom has a gluten allergy. I've only been to khans bbq and I don't think id trust the place as my service in the past has been pushy to the point of pushing Americanized dishes down my throat.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

I think Khan's menu is very straightforward and the best items to order are well-documented in several threads here, including this one. But beyond that, Khan is Pakistani, not Indian, so it may not be what you're looking for, anyway.

Highly recommend Luzzat in Rogers Park. Small, family run, BYO place in Rogers Park. But be prepared and order apps right away because dinner is a lovingly handmade (and very slow) process.

There aren't that many great indian places in the city that are good and "authentic" indian.

Udupi and Mysore Woodlands are decent for South Indian.

If you're looking for northern indian, I'd go to the more authentic Pakistani places. They won't be able to customize dishes for you (in terms of spice level) but the food is good. My favorites are Usmania and Sabri for nicer surroundings and Bismillah for just good homemade food.

Was impressed w Rangoli on North/Western last Sunday. Good spice.

    I also frequent Cumin.

I've got 2 for you with one near O'Hare the other in Niles.

Maharajah on Higgins in Rosemont is pretty good. The Himalayan on Golf Road near Milwaukee. The Himalayan is Nepali/Indian. We've been going there since they first opened. I believe they have two other places in the 'burbs now.
Before that we would hike down to Devon and hit Tiffin. A Pakistani friend first introduced us to Tiffin and we were regulars there for many years.

Checking around, I see a number of places that have a buffet at lunch. Are there any that offer buffet on weekday nights? Thanks.

Punjabi Dhaba on Devon should fit the bill.

Thanks, shotzy. By the time I received your tip, we had already "committed" to the a la carte Essence of India, which we enjoyed. But I will definitely remember the Punjabi Dhaba dinner buffet for a future visit.
