    I was trying to find this thread when I posted about the chupe de camarones at Riconcito Sudamericano. A lovely, spicy, creamy but light (not thick) shrimp chowder. It almost makes me wish for cold weather. The huge serving is enough to feed four as an appetizer, or one as a main dish.

    A couple of weeks ago, I tried a Black Eye Pea and Smoked Hog Jowls Soup at Jack's Firehouse in Philadelphia. It was really good - a smoky, hearty, and earthy taste.

    Last night, Joseph's Marketplace had a special on Camilla black eyed peas - 2/$1. I bought 4# and soaked 1# last night. Unfortunately, I did not soak the beans with enough water so I will soak in more water tonight. I will be cooking the beans with some funky country ham that I bought in September in Nashville.

    Now that the weather is turning to fall, I'm on the hunt for places to buy good soup. I do make my own soup from time to time but I love to find a place to buy some soup, such as a restaurant that makes its own and has carry out. So post any places you know that makes a good soup. I'll post one..........

    Gianorio's in downtown Winfield.

    This is a tiny little deli in an old historical building in the tiny town of Winfield. If you are ever around there, stop in for their soup and sandwich specials. I've had a few of them and they are good. Pasta fagoli....very good. They post every day at around 11:30 what their daily specials are. The last thing I had was their aforementioned soup and a Caprese sandwich which is toasted garlic bread with tomato, basil and mozzarella. Their cheesecake was good too but I don't think they make it there. I also had an egg salad on a pretzel roll. They are getting to have quite a following.

    I am going to visit The Verdict restaurant today to try out their soup. I'll report on it later for those in the western burbs.

    Best soup in the world - combo noodle soup at Mei Shung about 5200 block of North Broadway. At lunch it's a few bucks cheaper.

    Hi,

    Gravitate more often to Once Upon A Bagel's because I like the chopped chicken and vegetables mixed in with the rice, noodle, Matzoh ball and kreplach. It also comes with a bagel. If you are sharing, they give you two bagels.

    All of the above have sweet-sour cabbage soup.

    All the soups at GNR Smak-Tak are terrific. The only problem when ordering is deciding between them. The mushroom, the various borshts, and the chicken noodle are all delicious and are served in large enough bowls to make a meal of them (for non-LTHers).

    Having a bowl of leftover "Tom Yam with Beef Ball and Tender" soup from Aroy Thai for lunch today - if it isn't my favorite soup in town, I can't think of what is. Rich, spicy, chock full of meat and mushrooms - it's awesome.

    Don't bother with the soups at the Verdict. Gianorio's are much better. The chicken rice and lemon soup was average I'd rate it a C, it does not hold a candle to the same version served in the basement of the Board of Trade Building. Or if anyone remembers Brokers Inn soup. My friend had the sweet sour cabbage soup and enjoyed it but again I pronounce it mediocre. I could make better.

    They do have a pretty good chicken tortilla soup at of all places Boston Market.

    With regard to the Verdict, they are a fine greek diner with a throwback to the eighties. Eggs, breakfast, sandwiches are all fine. Its the kind of place many go to take their meals on a daily basis because they cook little. Old school waitresses.

    Steve's Deli does a nice sweet and sour cabbage soup as well!

    I've mentioned this in the Pret post, but haven't said anything about it here. Pret a Manger makes a wonderful lentil soup, thick and hearty and spiced just right. Pair it with their complimentary whole grain roll and you have a terrific lunch option. I also love their bean and bacon stew.

    for a great loop lunch, I love to carry out Petterino's snapper soup. It comes with onion bread and a little cup of sherry!

    Panozzo's minestrone with Italian sausage in a chicken and prosciutto broth was delightful and hearty, and almost worth the $5.99 with no bread earlier this week.

    Amitabul's Dr. K's Cure All Soup is a miracle in a bowl. The spicy seaweed, tofu, veggies and noodles have helped me put a hurt on colds, sore throats etc. Also recommended for hang overs.

    I met a friend at Macy's yesterday for lunch -- we ate up on the 7th floor but not at the kiosks -- we ate at the little ice cream shoppe/soup and sandwich cul de sac that's right outside of the hallway to the Walnut Room. I didn't expect it to be much but we had an absolutely delicious Chicken Chile -- really filled with spicy chicken and black beans with a full spicy roundness that wasn't too hot and was really yummy. I will be coming back for this soup. I don't remember how much it was but the whole meal (my dining companion had a reuben -- which he said was pretty darn good and I had a taco salad which was also pretty decent -- lots of corn and black beans) was around $35 for the two of us. Not bad for 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 sides of pretty good potato salad. oh..and a little bitty banana split.

    It was totally empty too -- which I suspect will not always be the case as the rush towards Christmas starts hopping.

    looks like good place to ask this question...

    suggestions where to go... for Wisconsin Cheese soup..

    And please not Culvers.. the last two times I was there I had to
    take the soup back as it tasted BURNT.
