    They're more purple than golden.

Ticket says 11-4, I wonder when people will start lining up.

I hope no graphic designers get any tiks. Seems they would not be at all difficult to reproduce.

The first thing I thought upon opening, actually, was "that would be pretty easy to fake." I would have thought they were going to number the tickets or somesuch.

I was hoping they would have told us the number of bottles when the tickets came. I don't like carrying a lot of extra cash around if I don't need to.

edit: looking at the FAQ again, perhaps they'll make you verify your name and address when you buy the beer.

That is part of it, if you don't have the ticket and you aren't on the list, you can't buy.

But if I am not mistaken, the tickets are transferrable. So there is a good chance someone using one of my tickets is not me.

I'd assume you should tell the other person your name and address, as to not run into any glitches.

Right, they said the reason for allowing you to buy multiple tickets was to give one to a friend. Since you didn't have to give the name of anyone else when buying the ticket, I don't see how checking names off a list is going to work.

Yeah I guess if you needed a name/address to buy why even print and mail the tickets? If I want to hand a ticket to some random person at the event, I also need to give them my name and address? It doesn't make sense that way.

I am not complaining, I am just cautious about any large event that requires a ticket that is easily copied.

Same here, it's hard to understand why there wasn't any type of copy protection put into the ticket design.

finally... finally going to get over to Munster on Saturday to try Three Floyds brewpup. Im heading over to Indiana to sell one of my smokers so a stop here is a no-brainer

menu recs is what Im after.

I saw on another thread a charcuterie tray Rene G got there back in the fall, wondering what was on it, and if it is always available.

Other food recs would be welcome as I will be looking for a quick lunch, and a few beers before I head home to smoke some ribs.

    thanks

    Jim -

I have not been. Was actually supposed to go last weekend but fell through. I asked the same question to some friends who went the weekend before. I heard the burger is damn tasty and you can't go wrong. Served on a pretzel roll and cooked to order. Also the pork tenderloin is supposed to be tasty, served with purple cabbage. I was gonna go for the tenderloin when I was supposed to go. And probably will when I head out there. The charcuterie plate is a special and not available all the time. There's a special's board I think. Again, haven't been but have heard really great things. Hope this helps. Post your experience please, so I can have some more leads when I go. Enjoy. Thanks.

The Fish & Chips are my absolute favourite and are some of the best I've had anywhere in the country. The burger is tasty, but I've had a hard time getting it cooked to anything below Well. I've heard nothing but good things about the Scotch Egg, but it's not really my thing so I haven't tried it.

Though not a FFF beer, I believe they have World Wide Stout on tap this week. If they have the Ham on Rye, that's an experience not to be missed.

I've enjoyed the schnitzel, and any sausage has been good as well.
Pizza is nothing you haven't had before, but if you've got the taste for it, its better than just "fine".

I'd definitely recommend the frites and scotch egg to get warmed up on. I don't know what your tolerance for hops is, or if you'd tried it before, but I'd recommend getting a Dreadnought if it is on tap.

    Jim,

I was just there last Sunday and hopefully I won't diminish your enthusiasm for the trip. Because it sounds like you have the same enthusiasm I had before I went. Now, I must also say that this was my first time there and I almost always give a place a couple of tries before I truly get a feel for the place, so maybe it was an off day, or maybe my 3 hour drive to Grand Rapids to watch my niece in a cheer leading competition and no sleep from bartending the night before had something to do with it, I don't know, but here's what I thought... For beer, I had the Ham on Rye, how can you go wrong with a beer created in honor of Henry Chinaski and a collaboration from Jonathan Cutler of Piece? It was exactly what I was looking for, there was a little smokiness to it and not very bitter. My wife went the NA route and chose a cream soda from Sprecher out of Wisconsin, it was the best thing we had there! It's all organic, made in the old fashioned soda recipe, I gotta get some of that in Chicago... But, wow, it was like a creamy, fizzy cream sickle and had amazing foamy head. It was delicious!

For starters we had the mac and cheese, with bacon. It was amazing, nice creamy cheesy consistency with a nice baked crust on top that was crispy without being burnt. The bacon, which I believe is house cured, not to sure, was cubed and was meaty and a little smoky when it was the meat. However, with it being cubed, more than half of the cubes were just the lard. Now I love a good rib eye stake, so I'm not afraid of marbling, and I'll gladly pay more than a dollar for real bacon... But we really had to sort through the pasta to avoid the lard bombs.

My wife had the fish and chips, not really sure what type of fish it was, but with the Alpha King battering that they use, it is heavily coated on the fish and has a strong bite to it at the finish. It definitely is not lite and flaky, and is the type of batter that can easily make the fish soggy, which happened to a couple of the pieces. The fries, I believe are house made, were fried to a crispy brown, but half of those were soggy as well. I couldn't decide between the burger or the Schnitzel and asked our sever and he was torn cause they were his two favorites. So I chose the Schnitzel. It comes with duck fat braised red cabbage, herb butter, and lemon juice on a pretzel roll. This wasn't my first Schnitzel so I thought I knew what I was getting into. Now, I do not know their cooking technique for the schnitzel, nor did I ask, but it seemed deep fried, not pan fried. Either way, it was cooked too long, to thin, or maybe both, because it was like eating crispy, dry shake n bake. That is why I think it was deep fried because when it's pan fried it's easier to control the loin from drying out. The pork loin was two decent size pieces, which I had no problem with cause it had to fit on the pretzel roll, but wow was it dry. Even with the cabbage, butter, and lemon, it was not enough to compensate for the pretzel bun and dry schnitzel. I should of asked for more cabbage or maybe some lemon wedges, but with as dry as the schnitzel was, I really doubt it would of helped. It also came with fries and they suffered from the same problem my wife had, some hot and crispy, some cold and soggy. I also ordered their housemade robert the bruce ketchup and it was like an ice cold chunky marinara sauce, it didn't even stick to my cold soggy fries...

Now, our server was very friendly, came back and checked on our food, and we were starving, did I tell you we left at 6:30 a.m. to go to a cheer leading competition on no sleep? And I truly believe and know that how a persons day is going and sometimes even what happens in the parking lot before they enter into an establishment can influence a review, so I want to let the reader beware that I was on pure caffeine, however, all of that aside, I really was let down by the food. I really wanted to like the place, it was the one of the reasons I agreed to go to GR for crying out loud, but I would say, go for the beer, get a burger and don't go with huge expectations of the food. The chartucuterie tray was not a special that week though and none of the other specials that week jumped out at me. I really think the only way I would go back was if I had a DD to sample all the beers or for Dark Lord Day. The food would not bring me back. The toys and all the taps they have around the room, are awesome, and brought back many childhood memories. It's just too bad they had the same soundtrack as Kuma's, just not as loud. Am I really that old? But that's a wholenother thread to discuss...

Wow, that's quite a rant, but I would stick with what Floyd's does best, BEER! Look forward to what you have to say about the place or hear from others that have dined there...

    Cheers,
    Max

On a side note, I'm looking for a smoker once summer rolls around, send me a PM about what you offer...

I dont build/sell smokers. I am selling a propane smoker I have & dont use anymore, to a guy from Hammond, and figured it was a good place to meet up. I am selling the GOSM propane unit to buy another WSM, this time the 22" model. :D

Their fries really are outstanding as are the Scotch eggs. Though others have already said as much, it bears repeating. :D

The last time I was there, I was surprised at how much larger the specials section was. As Llama already linked to, it's more than one special app/entree like it used to be. I had a boudin noir sandwich with the aforementioned duck fat-braised cabbage and it was mighty tasty. If they have bottles still of Jynx Proof, pick up 1-2. A pretty radical departure from their usual hop-fest, it's a very traditional (and tasty) lager. The Admiral Lord Nelson, a new ESB, was also very, very good (and should be showing up in bottles soon, I think).

One word of warning, though, about Saturdays -- the tour. The past few times I've been, the place absolutely fills up prior to their weekly tour and they have been pretty strict about keeping the place at capacity (I wouldn't want to be waiting outside for a table these days...). Also, immediately following the tour, everything fills up again -- no one is allowed to save seats once you start the tour. In other words, you might want to give the tour a wide berth (I believe it starts at 3pm and can run anywhere from 20-45 minutes).

While I'm thinking of my last visit, some tidbits from the guide (GM of the brewpub this time) included:
    - plans to nearly double their production this year, complete with a more automated bottling line
    - an interest in playing with sour ales
    - open a brewpub in Chicago
    - begin distilling liquors

(with the exception of the production, no mention of timelines)

Speaking of the Ham on Rye, I've seen it at Piece as recently as two weeks ago. A little too close to an actual ham on rye sandwich for my taste, I was still glad to try it.
    best,
    dan

I went there last weekend and would highly recommend it for the beer, obviously, but not quite so highly for the food. We weren't made aware of any of the specials that are linked to in an above post, which look pretty good, and the smallish food menu was standard pub fare. I had an basic, average burger that took an oddly long while to arrive, and Mrs. MKL had the fish and chips. The fish was quite mushy and the fries I thought were just fine.

We went to try the beer so despite the lackluster food we left happy. $5 imperial pints of top quality beer automatically wins me over.

    good info.

Not really going for the food, other than a sandwich, so it looks like I will be in luck, most importantly I want to sell the smoker, and 2nd have a few cold ones.. :D

I imagine they have a full bar right, I likes me some tequila with my beer.
