Entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis announced today that he is bringing his new fast casual restaurant concept, The Simple Greek, to the North Shore Illinois community of Highland Park, slated to open in the next few months with plans to serve authentic Greek flavors for lunch and dinner daily. The new eatery will offer fresh and healthy Mediterranean cuisine and will open at 478 Central Avenue in spring 2015; joining the other franchises currently located in Pennsylvania.

" Coppervine's Last Service is February 14th
"It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that Coppervine will be hosting its last service on February 14th. It was a great ride, we've made some great friends, experienced some amazing food and drink combinations and are thrilled we had an opportunity to serve you. Thank you to all of our guests for your patronage over the year. Please join us during our last couple weeks of service to say good bye and enjoy Restaurant Week and/or our final service on Valentine's Day.
Opening a restaurant is like having another child. In fact, I spent more time at Coppervine in the last 13 months than I did with my son. Like with a child you pour your heart and soul into it hoping that you will raise a happy and successful person. As it gets older you begin to realize that it will have a mind of its own and the public will form its own opinion of what’s right so you must evolve your guidance accordingly to increase likelihood of success. Our people, product and process are the best it's ever been and it saddens me that I will never get a chance to see Coppervine grow up." - Don Sritong, Founding Partner"

Oy. What a crappy analogy. And now his *child* is dead. Puh-leeze.

He obviously has a better grasp of his situation than I do, nor do I know anything about his finances, but how bad does business have to be to close in only 13 months? If he was getting positive feedback it seems like a waste to pitch it in so soon.
A family-owned trio of Mexican restaurants that operated on the same Ashland Avenue block for decades — all with the same name, La Pasadita — is now down to just one.

Oy. What a crappy response to someone losing their business.

Comparing a shuttered business to a dead child is completely over the top, IMO. I'd have a lot more empathy if the analogy weren't so ridiculous. And I certainly feel bad for the folks who lost their jobs.

jfibro wrote:He's hardly the first person to compare owning your own business to raising a child. And lamenting not being able to see it "grow up" is not the same as saying "my child is dead." If you've ever been close to or involved in a failing business, you know how emotionally impactful, stressful and debilitating it can be.
I don't think a snarky response to a local restaurant closing from one of the chief voices of the site is a good look IMO.

No need to argue against an analogy that was neither stated nor implied.

*Sigh* I'm just a horrible person to take his analogoy to heart. Not seeing a child "grow up" . . . maybe the child runs away or gets abducted by gypsies and never actually dies. My sincere apologies.

A taste of Mississippi by way of Chicago's South Side is coming to Lincoln Square with Tuesday's opening of Luella's Southern Kitchen.

I would like this--I loved Hanig's, but if they're gone, Teavana sounds good--but as of this morning, big "Retail Space for Lease" signs are still plastered all over the windows. (Don't know that this contradicts your information, but it's not encouraging, either.)
Zuma, a Japanese restaurant known to attract celebrity guests, is zooming toward Chicago. The London-based chain is close to finalizing a lease to take over the former Bin 36 space in River North's Marina City complex, according to people familiar with the deal.

I think that may be common sometimes. Goddess and Grocer/Cru/Feast around the corner from me in the Gold Coast has had articles written about how a clothing boutique is coming in but there's still For Lease signs up.
Here's the permit. It says coffee shop, but it's owned by Teavana

It's been dark since late November, according to a Yelper. People don't seem too broken up about it, as the service was allegedly just awful.

Still sucks to see a renowned and once-flourishing local institution on the verge of death. They're down to only 3 locations now.
