The sign on the door promises info on a new location "soon".

This is what happened to Middle Eastern Flair

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/norridge/news/ct-nhh-mattress-store-tl-0326-20150323-story.html

Before they closed, the owners son in law who worked the pm shift, said they were moving around Irving Park Rd and Cumberland Av.
I guess that fell thru! Hope they open soon. Nicest people.

Good news - it did not fall through. Middle Eastern Flair will be reopening on Irving Park, a little east of Cumberland at Pittsburgh . . . just across the street from Bob-O's. The space is large, but there's a lot of work to be done. I walked in to find some familiar faces and spoke to them. They said there hoping to open in about two months. I'll keep you posted.

Here's the building, with the old sign moved here from the Harlem Avenue location. I can't wait!

Well, I guess any glimmer of hope I had that Joseph's would re-open is now gone. :(

O’Neil’s Restaurant, 1003 Green Bay Road, will cease operating on Jan. 1 2016. “It’s been a great run, but its time for someone else to come in with a new concept,” said O’Neil’s owner Patrick O’Neil.

Ballaro, a new Italian restaurant from Josh Kaplan (Sherman's son) and Mark Newman, is open in Highwood in the old Gabe's Backdoor Lounge/Pop's space on Green Bay Road. The menu looks like it has some intriguing items, especially for this neck of the woods.

Spotted a another new place in Highwood on a drive this afternoon. Scotty's on Sheridan, serving "modern American cuisine" according to its website. It's in the northernmost strip mall with along the stretch across from Ft. Sheridan.

Also noticed the Tap House in Highwood has a new name, something like Barrel Craft or whatnot. The location is no longer listed on the Tap House web site, so its gone indie. Will be interesting to see what changes they make.

And back in Highland Park, according to Patch, the Ravinia BBQ and Grill on Roger Williams is closing after 30 years.

Scotty was the host/bartender/server in the captain's quarters bar in the basement of Lovells in Lake Forest. He was there for ages and had a big following. I have not been to the new place yet, but I heard he would be staffing it with a lot of people from Lovells, both front and back of the house. He is a great guy, and I wish him well.

While driving by this evening, we noticed that the old Max's space on Western at Ardmore is now VPT (Vince's Pizzeria and Taqueria). Their motto: Everyone's Favorites Under One Roof! It seems to be a second store, the first being at 1527 W. Devon. The Western store seems to have just opened yesterday according to their Facebook page. I know nothing about Vince's but am not sure about burgers plus Tex-Mex plus pizza....

grilled onions, roasted red peppers then smothered with "Chieftain IPA" cheese sauce and
served on brioche bun. The “Norb” will be topped with garlic butter, bacon Jam, sliced red
onion, blue & gruyere cheese topped with arugula and served on a French roll. All burgers
and Ciabatta sandwiches will be served with seasoned homemade pub potato chips.
A wide variety of appetizers, risottos, main plates, salads and soon to be famous “bomb
pie” for dessert, are sure to please most everyone’s appetite

In Chicago's Tri-Taylor/ Medical District neighborhood-
a new Indian Restaurant is opening (soft opening this past week- and the Grand Opening tomorrow the 20th of November)

    Ryhana's Cuisine
    2253 W. Taylor Street
    Chicago,IL.60612
    312.251.1234

    http://www.ryhanascuisine.com

Mom- The-Chef, was used to cooking for her community (mostly catering) - and her son talked her into opening her own place.
We shared their Pepper Chicken- served ala-carte....and 2 Paratha's @ .75 cents each. Very fresh and peppery
boneless chicken thighs, seasoned with lots of garlic and ginger and topped w/ scallions and cilantro.
Very flavorful- not too "wet" of a curry-really nice home-cookin'!
    Note:
A VERY Tiny setup - one small counter- and one 4-top is the extent of the seating.
The "word" must be out, though - because there was a steady stream of UIC-looking-students as well as
    plenty of neighborhood folks.
Mom (The Chef/ Proprietor) is from Mumbai- and her food reflects that region of Indian cooking.
No Tandoori Oven- regulations- special exhaust/venting and $$$- led to them not having a Nan-cooker.

The food court at Mitsuwa is going through openings, closings, and general re-arranging. All new tables, so it looks much nicer now. The Jockey Wok-and-Roll Chinese place is gone. The place that had tempura has been replaced. A hole in the wall of food stalls promises a hand-made udon shop from Japan "coming this fall." Happily, Santouka is still there, since a big bowl of miso ramen with extra pork was my main reason for being there this evening. But looking forward to trying the hand-made udon (with special flour flown in from Japan, the sign says).

We looked at the space next door for "The Budlong"... same building owner as 2301 w. foster - he's opening a breakfast spot, he compared it to Egg Harbor when we spoke. Really nice remodel job - it was almost done last year when we looked at it, I would assume he's just waiting for the chef/concept to develop. Those details were unclear last time I spoke to him.
I love comfortable food, and comfortable restaurants.
