I stopped into Blackbird last night for a quick dinner before the opera, and I was aghast to discover that they don't have doughnuts on their menu anymore! How could this be? Not a big enough fan base?
The first time I dined at Blackbird I thought the food was unexceptional until my doughnuts with peanut butter, honey and bananas. That said, I had the monkfish last night and have to concur with what others have said here about fish at Blackbird. It's prepared very skillfully....almost as good as at Spring. The dessert I did have at Blackbird last night--caramel cremeux with delicata squash, ellendale tangerines and toasted pumpkin seeds--was excellent BTW, despite all of my pouting about the doughnuts.
I'm not too interested in recommendations for other places to get exceptional doughnuts (I just want people to help me get doughnuts back on Blackbird's menu), but I'll take suggestions so long as one isn't Hot Chocolate. I've found Hot Chocolate's doughnuts to be overdone and the taste or oil too prominent--no comparison to Blackbird's.
(I haven't figured out how to embed links yet. Can I just HTML code it with an ahref, etc?)
