Outdoor seating in winter

Post #1 - November 27th, 2006, 10:46 amDoes anyone know of a restaurant that offers outdoor seating in winter? I seem to recall reading about a Chicago area restaurant that's a bit upscale, and has an outdoor garden, with either a large fireplace and/or space heaters for winter dining. I've done some searching online, and I found the Fireside, but this doesn't seem to be the same place I read about.
Thanks for any help!

Post #3 - November 27th, 2006, 12:05 pmThe patio at Fireside is open year-round, but I wouldn't call the food upscale. Their dining room with the fireplace has a more elegant feel, but obviously doesn't qualify as outdoor seating. I usually like their soups and the broiled chicken breast is often my go-to dish. I also like that they deliver to North Rogers Park.

Post #5 - November 27th, 2006, 4:33 pmI have always been fond of the Village Tap's beer garden, which is open year-round. It is a bar, but the food quality is a bit above average for a bar, in my opinion. Great beer garden too, nice and warm during the winter.

Post #6 - November 27th, 2006, 4:53 pmVolo Wine Bar has an outdoor dining area lined with space heaters on pillars -- I suspect you could eat out there even in pretty chilly weather. They have built a permanent structure in the place of the tent this year - I've not been since the change.

We were there a month or so ago. The new structure is nice, but is more or less a permanant extension of the inside. Other than being on top of the outdoor garden, it has nothing in common with an outdoor garden, I'm afraid.Steve Z.

Caveat...the one time I dined there, I wasn't impressed. However, I've heard really good things from friends. I wouldn't necessarily let my experience color the whole restaurant - it escapes me, but I feel like they were out of several things and my server was flaky.

I'm from Madison, and remember reading about it last year, thinking it would be a great place to eat when I come to Chicago sometime in the winter. It seems that most of these places are in the same area, so I'll have to check all of them out...
