I know buffets are not exactly on the top of everyone's list of good places to eat, but some buffets are really fantastic and offer a great value. Any recommendations of particularly good buffets (any type) in Chicago?

Actually, it has been a fairly frequent topic of discussion. If you do a search for "buffets," you'll find threads for Mexican buffets, Polish buffets, "All you can eat Chicago," and many others. In fact, there were 101 responses when I searched. So I think you underestimate our love for abundance. ;-)

Thank you. I usually use the search function but I just "assumed" wrongly that people in here might not be up for discussing buffets.

It might seem at times that this wouldn't be a big focus for the group, but it can be. That's one of the group's strengths -- something for every taste, price range, or food goal.

And you're right, there are some great buffets out there. I'm in the suburbs, so I'm not sure how helpful it would be to know this, but two of my favorite buffets are India House in Buffalo Grove and Seasons of Long Grove. Both have been discussed elsewhere, but they are both worth mentioning often.

Thanks for posting your reply. I just tried searching and, while many of those ~100 responses were topics about specific restaurants, there were (as you note) a few topics on specific kinds of buffets, such as...

    Mexican buffets
    Polish Smorgasbords
    Suburban Chinese buffets in decline?

The most comprehensive discussions are in these topics:

    All You Can Eat Chicago
Buffets - Know of any good ones?

Links are included so you can just click on the topics above...

Most Indian restaurants seem to have buffets, too, at least at lunch time. India House is the closest for me, but I know that Mt. Everest in Evanston has a great lunch buffet, and though I usually go to Devon for dinner, I would imagine there would be more than a few restaurants there with buffets at lunchtime.
