I've had a horrible craving for, oh, two weeks now, but have not had time to make my way down to Chinatown for the reliable LTH version. We will, however, be biking in the vicinity of Argyle today, so I thought I'd solicit opinions as to our best bets there.

I liked the Tank Noodle version very much, but I think they are still on vacation?

Other than that, I don't really know one eatery from the next (excepting Sun Wah, which I will probably never convince my husband to enter - he is appalled at the idea of all of that meat).

Too bad, because Sun Wah makes a pretty decent version of S&P shrimp.

P.S. You typed appalled when you probably meant to say thrilled, right?

Tank Noodle has reopened. I walk by every day on the way to the red line.

He's an enigma wrapped in a question lightly seasoned with a peppery sense of guilt about eating our animal friends.

But I did get him to a steakhouse last week; perhaps he'd be willing to reconsider.

I've never tried their S&P shrimp, but I love the S&P tofu at Hoang Thanh, and I bet your husband might too.

Personally, I'm partial to their beef in black pepper sauce as a counterpoint to the S&P tofu, but I'd love to hear about the shrimp.

    Best,
    Michael

I remember that post. I immediately informed my husband that we were going ASAP...and then we got distracted with Cuban pork sandwiches and Italian pastry, which really are not at all bad things to be distracted by :D

I think I will propose it for today - he will be much more amenable to it if he doesn't think I will force him to eat seafood (or watch me crunch away on those delicious heads).

Don't overlook Hon Kee (1064 W. Argyle) , which does a fine S&P shrimp. Try the bbq pork and eggs while you're there as well.

    I'll second Silver Seafood.

That is my wife's go-to place for ordering food on Friday night. They also have S&P smelt, which aren't that bad (but no way near better than Greektown smelt). They will also S&P flavor any dish you want if you ask nicely.

There has been a change in managment (maybe new family) over the past few weeks and they seem to be more tickled when non-asian people order more exotic food. Like I told my waiter while eating at a bad Mexican place a few weeks ago, "Can you please make my dish Mexico-hot and not gringo-hot"
