OK, so the boss of the house, my wife, is approaching her 7th month of pregnancy and has those cholcolate and pastry cravings about, ummm, 10 times a day...

Does anyone know of a GOOD, REAL BAKERY around Naperville or in the Western Suburbs, we can't seem to find one in Naperville, and saw one in downtown Wheaton, but it has since closed...

    Please help....

There's an asian bakery that sells really good chocolate cakes. you can buy them by the slice or you can buy a whole cake too.

To quote myself from an earlier thread:

As to good bakeries, here is my west suburban catalog, which is outside the sphere of the other suggesions, but may be of use to some.

Hahn's - Geneva. Good tarts and cakes, and all around pastry. Not too fond of their bread which is a little too sweet and soft for me.

Tea & Sympathy - Naperville. Great chinese pastries, done in a somewhat French style. The sweet breads, eggy rich, such as the Pineapple bread, are very tasty fusion items. Then they also have a full line of European pastries, including lots of cheesecake-ish things that I have never tried.

Upper Crust - Lisle. The best coffee cakes I have ever had. These are regular strip coffee cakes, but they make all sorts of varieties and they are all totally sinful. I have not yet gotten beyond these, but they have other cookies and pastries that look darned good.

Hahn's may be too far for you, but both Upper Crust and Tea & Sympathy are very good.

Cocoa Bean has recently opened in Geneva at 11 S. 7th which is one building south of State Street (Rte 38) at 7th. The 3 owners have all worked as pastry chefs at either/or all, Rhapsody, Ambrosia and Everest. The deserts are a work of art and incredibly decadent tasting. Most things come in several sizes with a tasting size priced at 95 cents. I just brought in a dozen of the tasting size for a coworker's b-day and everyone loved everything from the mini-cheese cakes to the double chocolate mousse.

Hours have been a little irregular so call, we went once when posted open and they were closed, another time they were supposed to be closed and they were open.

how did that smiley get there??? It's supposed to be Rte. 38.
