For the past several years I would throw a 4th of July/Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Championship watching party at my apartment in Chicago.

Well, I recently moved away, but will be back in the city I miss so much and staying with cable-less friends this July 4th, and we're having trouble thinking of anyplace to go enjoy breakfast, or lunch and/or a beer and watch the contest, which is airing on ESPN starting at 10am central time.

Does anyone have any recommendation for a place that would be open at 10 am on the 4th of July, have cable, and be willing to turn up the volume on the TV for half a dozen people who politely ask?

Places on the north side(andersonville/lincoln square-ish) would be ideal, however... desperate times... desperate measures...

    Thanks!

Did the announcer actually say Joey Chestnut showed "valor" and was "a true American hero"?

Was Kobayashi actually eating his own reversal?

This show is too much even for a guy who eats bugs and balls.

Still waiting for the judges' decision...glad I don't have to watch the tape again and again.

Funny, all along I thought it was Joey Chestnut who was going to vomit. Kobayashi looked calm and collected, whereas Joey kept getting that bulging eye "uh-oh" sort of expression on his face. :?

I've had some really bad hot dogs in my lifetime but I give credit to anyone who is able to eat even one of those nasty ass Nathan's hot dogs!

It was still sort of fun to watch. I do miss guys like Ed "Cookie" Jarvis and several other old timers that no longer participate in it.

I didn't even know that Carlene LeFevre had retired from competitive eating until they mentioned it during the broadcast. I'll miss the Carlene pop!
