Longtime Lurker here, but I thought this was worthy of my first post. Sunday dinner at Manny's. Yahoooo!

I received the following email today:

"A deli revival is going on in Chicago!

Great site. Thanks! I love this line: "I love Jewish food, but when you eat, 72 hours later, you’re hungry again.”

I'm glad to hear the news about Manny's extended hours. Since I no longer work downtown, it's been a little tough for me to get there as often as I like. The news about 11 City Diner expanding...well, there's always a little bitter in with the sweet.

Ditto about Manny's. Check out also one of the embedded sites, here:

It'll give you an idea why any talk about a "deli revival" led by the likes of 11-city is all smoke and feathers. Anybody mention "herring salad," "tongue," "knishes"?

Oh well, one can always hope, since there seem to be other openings involved, but I guess the best news of all -- other than Manny's extended hours -- is that the Second Avenue Deli may be reopening, only 900 or so miles away.

Just contacted Ken Raskin, to find out whether the "Manny's-on-Sundays" rumor is true.

Unfortunately, according to Ken, it is not.

Too bad about Sundays. Expanding hours to include dinner untrue as well? I emailed the guy from savethedeli.com to let him know that this info may not be true, and pointed him to this link. Maybe he'll reply here.

The following was posted on the save the deli sight, with a link back to this thread:

    Chicago Clarification

Some readers have written me questioning whether some of the Chicago news I wrote yesterday is true. So I should put in this disclaimer.
*The information contained on this site, especially pertaining to the opening and closing of delicatessens, comes from a variety of sources, and if often based on rumor. I feel it is my duty to report it, even though there is a chance those rumors may not come to fruition. To Chicago deli fans I can only advise that they be patient…what they desire is only a matter of time.

That last line reads like a fortune cookie. Hope it's more accurate.
