I was flipping through one of those Dining Out magazines for Chicago, and noticed an ad for a new restaurant from Omar Rodriguez, chef at Think Cafe in Bucktown. Does anyone have any information on when and where this is opening? I think it was called "Knew" and it's also another BYO....

    Thanks!

I don't think he's gotten it going yet. When I talked to Omar in April, he was thinking of using the space in Wicker Park that John Bubala was using for Baccala. However, he had just learned that John was keeping Baccala open. Now that Baccala has closed, perhaps Omar can get hold of that space for KNEW.

However, I would recommend to Omar to not go to Wicker Park, because I don't think that area will support fine or semi-fine dining. I think that area is more interested in fairly loud dining and bar places.

John, I only wish Bonsoiree was in Wicker Park, and that I could walk into Schwa at any time. I think fine dining is exactly what Wicker Park needs! I like Mas and Cafe Bionda as much as the next guy, but I'd love to have a fine dining choice in the neighborhood, other than I guess Cafe Absinthe?

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but is that the kind of place the residents in that area will support? I really wish we had a couple of fine dining places in Naperville. There's certainly enough folks with money in Naperville, but every fine dining establishment has failed. Perhaps the same is the case with Wicker Park?

    All the best,
