Party room advice needed!

Post #1 - November 6th, 2007, 5:44 pmI am making my Mother a 60th Birthday Celebration this summer. I want a nice restaurant with a private room. I don't wanna do any of the usual Wildfire/Maggiano type places. Any input would be greatly appreciated! It can be a little on the pricey end, but nothing too crazy. I am also opened to something casual and fun. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll find a wealth of good suggestions here.
In order for people to respond with good suggestions, you might want to add some information on what kind of food your mother likes, what location is optimal, and whether there are any special considerations, (like valet parking needed, low noise level, etc.)
Is a nostalgic atmosphere optimal? Are there any vegetarians in the group? Are you interested in something cutting edge? Also, a general idea of the per person budget helps to narrow it down a bit.Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.

We once rented out the "separate structure" back building in the courtyard of Mia Francesca on Clark Street for a family outing. It was fantastic and not too pricey. It's pretty casual and very personal back there as well.

I'm always pimping Reza's for a "different" option. Mid Eastern is not really over the top spiced ethnic food, and I find that a lot of ppl who are unfamiliar go in expecting something like Indian food, and not shish ka bobs, and grilled meats with simple lemon and garlic seasonings. Grilled mushrooms, different kababs, some felafel, pita bread, hummus/baba ghannouj, fire roasted veggies, and grilled whitefish or salmon always sounds like a great idea for something different for a private party to me, and it's not so over the top that people will be turned off by the spicing.

I love Reza's, but I don't think it is my mom's kinda thing. Francesca's is a good idea. I live near the one in Northbrook but unfortunately they do not have a private room. Keep the suggestions coming!

Post #9 - November 7th, 2007, 4:32 pmI would second the private coach house at Mia Francesca -- a beautiful space where we've had great experiences -- but their max capacity is 24, I think. They can handle larger groups in their upstairs space, which is nice but not nearly as intimate and "special" as the coach house.

Post #10 - November 7th, 2007, 4:36 pmStandard answer: Sabatino's. If you want to go nuts, the private dining at Gibson's/Hugo's is better than the restaurants, in my experience (that's good). There are a ton of options, really, so you might want to throw out some "modifiers."

Post #11 - November 7th, 2007, 5:47 pmHow about Miramar in Highwood? They have a room that would accommodate 40 people very nicely. I'm sure you could plan a set menu for under $30pp. And the place is fun.

Post #14 - November 8th, 2007, 12:14 pmHow about Gioco in the south loop? I work there and they have 2 private rooms, one that seats about 35 (Speakeasy) and the other about 70 (Ballroom). You can check it out here
